Also known as the “Angels of Death”, Grim Reapers are actually Angels with black wings and hair who wield massive scythes and carry items such as lanterns or hourglasses. Dressed in hooded black robes which grants them invisibility and skeletal armour, including a skull-shaped mask, Grim Reapers possess a terrifying appearance which conceals their angelic nature. Unlike their more popular counterparts, Grim Reapers are feared and even hated as heralds of death and tragedy regardless of their duty to not only act as guides for the souls of the dead but also act as “reapers” of those who are fated to die by the orders of the gods of Heaven.
Unlike most Angels, Grim Reapers resent their duty of killing humans who are fated to die, especially kind-hearted humans, and are actually supportive of the current Demon Lord who wants to stop the cycle of bloodshed between humans and monsters. As a result, many Grim Reapers sided with the Demon Lord and became mamono as a result. Despite becoming lustful mamono, Grim Reapers do possess a strong sense of duty to act as guides for the souls of the dead and would thus wander across the land to help guide them to the afterlife. On the other hand, if a Grim Reaper encounters a human man whom she fancies, especially a man who is exceptionally kind-hearted, she will make her presence known to him and introduce herself to him. If the man shows no fear towards her, at least not after getting to know her, she will quickly claim him as a husband.
Appearing emotionless if not grim, Grim Reapers are in truth melancholic beings who wish to be loved rather than hated or feared. Because of that desire, a Grim Reaper who had obtained a husband will be extremely protective over him, often hovering over him as an unseen “Shadow of Death” that could scare off even Dragons. Nevertheless, Grim Reapers will still help to guide nearby souls of the dead even after getting married.
When it is time for their husbands to pass away, Grim Reapers will personally bring them to the Underworld, a realm of the dead created by the strongest of the Grim Reapers, where they can both have their final blissful rest. It should be noted that, even as mamono, Grim Reapers are not influenced by the Fallen God thereby making them immune to “falling” into a “Dark Angel of Death”.
