Hydra is the other half of Dagon, depicted as the quite feminine god of the ocean, fishing, and fertility in the feminine sense, such as conceiving the child rather than siring it. She shares the domains with her sister/consort Dagon. It is said in Dagon/Hydra scriptures that the two were born in the same realm and found each other. Desiring each other despite being siblings, they copulated and Hydra was impregnated by her sister, giving birth to the race of Mamono known as the Deep Ones. She is often called Mother Hydra within the faith.
Where her sister shares a strong resemblance to the Mersharks, Hydra shares a similar resemblance to the Mermaids. Her bottom half appears that of a fish, massively so since Hydra is of similar size to her consort/sister. Her tail sports a rainbow sheen, changing colors in different intensities of light. Unlike her sister, she wears a bikini-type garment so not to disrupt her swimming with her chest’s enticingly large size. Her hair matches her tail, a fiver of colors as her hair runs down her body. On her head she wears a tiara of coral and glowing sealife, making her seem more ethereal and magical than her consort.
Although not as aggressive or flamboyant as the Dagon Faith, the followers of the Hydra Faith are just as populous as their counterparts. Their role in their communities tends to be as caregivers, so the Hydra Faith primarily focuses on caring for members of the community that cannot do so themselves or healing the wounded and sick. Most of the magical arts which can be classed as derived from the Hydra Faith all focus on healing wounds and sicknesses. Many of the healing organizations which exist in underwater Mamono settlements are in fact organized by members of the Hydra Faith.
Like the Dagon Faith, the Hydra Faith encourages its followers to be promiscuous, using their fertile bodies to sire children to raise in loving families. Polyamory is commonplace, although not considered to be the rule, but merely one aspect of the life of a Hydra/Dagon follower. Inversely, responsibility as a parent is another aspect to the Faith and strongly enforced. If a parent is unwilling to be a parent, they are shamed and all but exiled from their villages. If the parent is merely unable, due to some personal limitation, the community will step up to care for the child until the parent can resume their duties or until the child has grown up. Unlike those who shirk the duty, those who are truly unable to raise their own children are often the subject of community support, if not pity.
Like Dagon, Hydra rarely appears in the realms of mortals. However, she is known to have appeared during many terrible hurricanes to aid her children and followers. The town of Innsmouth claims that during an unnaturally fierce storm which threatened to drop the town into the ocean, Hydra appeared and shielded the town with her body from the waves, protecting all of her extended family within. This also coincides with the tales of Dagon rescuing drowning sailors in the middle of the ocean. Some of the sailors who returned from their time with Dagon reported seeing a Mamono resembling Hydra returning to the realm with a bruised chest and abdomen, but glowing with motherly pride at having protected her children. She then picked her own selection of the men Dagon was not entertaining and seduced many of them back to her portion of the realm where, assumedly, they were transformed into aquatic incubi.
