A Sea Mania who has become more accustomed to being on land waiting for her husband at the beach.
Family: Lamia
Type: Reptile
Habitat: Oceans, preferably shallow waters and coral reefs (Only in the Reptile Kingdom)
Disposition: Warm, Gentle, Care Free, Friendly Devoted, Panicy
Diet: Fish and other sea food
Dwelling in the Reptile Kingdon seas and oceans are strange subspecies of Lamia, the Sea Lamia. They have long tails with a flattened, paddle like tip, allowing them to swim through the warm waters of the kingdom with ease. Their scales are brightly colored often in bright yellows and whites with bold stripes or with their dorsal scales being a dark black, at the same time their bellies lack that broad, flat scales of their land bound cousins. Their bodies are often soft and huggable bodies with larger breasts, making them more bouyant so that they can float in the water more easily. Their eyes tend to have a more glassy look, as if they aren't really paying attention, however they are far more aware of their surroundings than is initially apparent.
Sea Lamia are extremely venomous. Easily outstriping all of the landborn cousin save the Taipa in sheer potency of their venom. A single drop of their venom can paralyze even the most powerful of sea beasts almost instantly, because of this Sea Lamia are avoided by almost all predators. They can enjoy a care free lifestyle in spite of the mighty beasts that share the waters with them.
Sea Lamia tend spend their days at a relaxed pace. Usually floating near the surface, basking in the sun or resting in crevices of rock or coral. They tend to be friendly towards those they meet, often swimming up ships or boats and conversing with anyone onboard. Should a Sea Lamia find someone in the water they will usually go to great them, often allowing a person to touch their scales, or should the swimmer be a man, actively hugging and flirting with him. Sea Lamia are also known to rescue those in peril, often using dragging drowning people to safety, often kissing them and breathing part of their own air supply into the drowning swimmers lungs to buy more time. This warm and friendly demeanor makes the Sea Lamia a welcome sight to most sea faring folk, often being a sharp contrast from the ravages of the open sea and beasts the dwell in it.
Like their land bound cousins, Sea Lamia breath air and thus they must come to the surface periodically to breath. However, they have also gained the ability to absord small amounts of oxygen out of the water through their skin, greatly extending the amount of time they can hold their breath. A Sea Lamias eyes usually have a glazed look to them, this is because they have poor vision. All Sea Lamia are extremely near sighted, often having problems seeing much more than a blur when anything is more than a meter away from them. However this rarely hinders them as they use hearing, smell, and the ability to sense pressure waves and vibrations in the water to perceive the world around them, not vision. A Sea Lamia can accurately sense where even the smallest fish is from several hundred meters and they can smell food or a mate from a mile away. A Sea Lamia can also judge what kind of condition a person is in by hearing the sound of their heart beat as they approach, quickly discerning whether the person is in need of help before they can even see them. It has been proposed the Sea Lamia have other sensory abilites, such as electro magnetic detection, but this remains untested.
It should be noted that while Sea Lamias are usually easy going and confident, they are terrified of being out of the water. This is because they can't sense vibrations outside of the water and without the broad scales found on the underbelly of other Lamia, they have a great deal of difficulty moving on land, leaving them effectively blind and crippled when not in the water. Because of this, being forced to shore or on deck of ship is enough to send them into a panic, flailing about and biting everything that comes to close before eventually exhausting themselves, curling up, and crying at their own helplessness. A display, that while potentially dangerous when too close, is rather pitiful, as a Sea Lamia doesn't even know how to properly curl up and strike like a land bound lamia does and can only flop about. Though a sailor will rarely do such a thing on purpose as it is a horrible thing to do to such a kind hearted mamono, it isn't uncommon for dozens of sailors to end up being sick and paralyzed for several hours after having rushed to aid a paniced Sea Lamia who had washed aboard via a strong wave or had gotten caught and dragged up in a fishing net.
Unlike most venomous lamias, Sea Lamias do not use their venom to claim a mate. Because of their more positive reputation, they rarely have need to. Often a Sea Lamia will simply begin courting a sailor or swimmer who frequently visits them. A man who she had rescued or had rescued her when she was stranded on shore will often become the target of her lusts. Should a Sea Lamia not get visitors often enough, she will usually venture towards around beaches or docks to find a mate, occasionally one may go up a river, some have even ventured over a hundred miles inland in search of a mate. When she does find a man she will use her warm and friendly nature to seduce him instead of trying to force herself on him. She will flirt with him from the water, luring him to swim with her. When in the water she will embrace him and rub herself on him, and inviting him to touch her more and more, stoking his lust and marking him with her scent. Over multiple encounters a Sea Lamia will seduce the man into mating with her and claim him as her husband.
A married Sea Lamia is very devoted to her husband, often trying to lure him into the water to spend as much time with him as possible and spending most of the time he's ashore waiting at the beach or dock for his return. Some Sea Lamia have even learned to move on land, albeit at a very slow pace, and are willing to brave the frightening prospect of the shore, though they will cling to their husband the whole time, viewing him as the only form of safety in the terrifying world they know as dry land.
[And here's the Sea Lamia, based off of the Sea Snakes, not to be confused with the much more aggressive Sea Krait. I stayed pretty accurate to what real world sea snakes are like and threw in a bit of sea bishop or mershark in there. Hope you guys like it.
