Yo lo! Jeiel here with a new one! In all honest fact, she's not even an Ozian native. I imported her from Spanish/Chilean lore. But, I loved her and wanted to make her a Mamono ever since I saw a Monmusu photo of her from Okayodo's game (which got shut down, *sniff sniff*). I enjoyed playing it up with this gal.. so here she is! Oh, and you can find her here: User_blog:JeielYozama/Fan-Made_Mamono_Realms_-_OZ_(Premediate):
A Carbuncle! Well.. close enough.
CARBUNCLE / AGNAPITAN
Chimaera Family
Dark Beast Type
Habitat: Rocky alps and mountainous regions in Oz
Disposition: Shy, benevolent
Diet: Herbivore; prefers fruit produce and roots
A chimeric specie of Mamono known for the strange gem growth on the center of their foreheads. They live in seclusion and are rarely sighted by travelers and inhabitants alike. When threatened, the gems on their heads emit a bright light that cause temporary blindness, buying them enough time to scamper away to higher ground.
In Ozian history, the Carbuncle was the royal court's treasurer. She was created to keep a faithful watch on the first king's treasure trove and manage his most important possessions. When the ancient war broke out and Oz's enemies threatened to overrun the kingdom, the king sent her away, instructing her not to return with the treasure until the battle had ceased. Ever since, the Mamono had not recieved any word from her king. In the mountains where she hid, she remained and became a race of her own.
The appearance of a Carbuncle encompass several Mamono features meshed together. With green fur filling up the majority of their body, they have the following traits: the nose and flushing cheeks of a Large Mouse, the floppy ears of a Kobold, the paws of a Caith Sith, and the bushy tail of a Ratatoskr. A mirrorlike jewel rests atop their forehead, which glows differently depending on the emotion they are feeling. Behind their back is a jointed shell close to that of a Umi-Osho. When the Mamono curls up with her back exposed, she can disguise herself as a dull-colored rock.
Carbuncles are nocturnal foragers. They choose the safety of nightfall to feed on fruits and plant roots as well as search for water. Living alone is a common trend, but when Carbuncles meet up by chance they band together as a small group. As a form of affirmation, their gems would flash a unique color. This is how they tell each other apart.
The gem of a Carbuncle, which is a black market commodity due to its magical properties, is more than just Mamono decor. It grants them the power of empathy - to sense what a nearby entity is feeling. Through it, they can assess if a person harbors peaceful or ill intent. In addition, Ozian aborigines believe the gem can cure eye impairments when crushed into powder. Hunters have always ventured into mountains to catch them, but their nimble feet and familiarity in their home terrain are key to eluding their captors.
One of the odd traits that Carbuncles retained over the years is the penchant for hiding riches. When they come of age, in the same way as that of human women, they start to search for items that they deem valuable and store them in the gap between their shells and backs (the list of 'treasures' they stash vary depending on the individual, ranging from precious metals to artefacts at least a century old). As the years pass, their shells grow slightly bigger, giving them more space to fill their hoard. To remind them of their belongings, they mark the items with glow-in-the-dark saliva. This is actually, their most critical weakness: when uncurled, the marked treasures glow bluish-white inside their shells, making them an easy sight for miles around at night.
Unlike many Mamono species, Carbuncles never attack men. In fact, they do their best to avoid them since they have no clue on how to approach people. However, if there are injured humans within their territory (or weakened Mamono, for that matter), they will scurry by their side and nurse them back to health using their knowledge in mountain medicine. Once their patient is stable, they will leave them at the edge of their territory by daybreak.
When mating season arrives, Carbuncles are driven by instinct to find a mate. In the dead of night, they head to the foot of their mountain homes and flash an innocent light from their gem. That, and the gleam emitted by their stored treasures, gives them the appearance of a floating halo in a sea of darkness. The first man who sees this light will be instantly drawn to it, like a moth to a flame. This allows her to lure him to her den without delay.
Once they do make it back, the Mamono will waste no time in apologizing for what she had done. Because of her instinctual motive, she will realize later on that she had already brought a man to her own home. At the same time, she will look into the man, and upon feeling sentiments of benevolence and compassion within him, she will desire to be his mate. There is no known rejection at this stage: only a kind-hearted man would be drawn to the mating light of a Carbuncle. It is her way of forging a connection with the male of her choice.
With an elegant bow, the Mamono will confess her feelings to him, then chip off a fraction of her gem as a symbol of her affection. Accepting the gem means accepting the Carbuncle. Through sex, the two seal their union as a couple, and with a loving glint in their eyes the Mamono incites the man to take the lead. The premise of her beloved's penis penetrating her will take her by surprise. With a delighted whimper, she will accept his seed wholly. She will enjoy feeling her partner's warmth in the physical and mental aspect. Over time, an addiction over sex will manifest, even though they are not lustful in the first place.
Carbuncle wives are linked in thought and mind with their husbands. No matter where their male is, they will be able to discern what he is feeling by the hour. If they find him in need of affection, they will fawn over him with sweet words, and of course, by being able to see through their wives' intent, the man will be overcome by his lustful urges to pounce on her. Any other wives of the same man will be blessed with the same mind-link, so as they too, can keep watch over their husband's satisfaction.
To note: it is common knowledge that when a banded Carbuncle obtains a husband, she will share him with the other members of her group. A man is free to refuse her offer of marriage, but if he takes a piece of her marked treasure unwittingly, he will be bewitched to return it before he could even leave the mountain. Taking her treasure would be comparable taking a part of her, which is why she will insist on 'taking responsibility' (towards this, the person will have no other choice than to accept).
Also, a Carbuncle's belongings -meaning the treasures she had hoarded throughout her life - will also belong to her husband. Men who are in this disposition are easily labeled as 'millionaires', since there is no say as to how vast the riches one Carbuncle can store in her shell. Somewhere out there, the original Carbuncle still lives, guarding the treasures of the first king of Oz.
TL Notes: So, here we have the Carbuncle! Sorry 'bout the image. It's her, minus a shell. But.. I can only imagine. If you had several Carbies, and each had a ginormous stash of wealth... time to retire in luxury bub. Enjoy!
