The Manix are a special breed of werecat native to the Gossamer Islands. They have dark blue gray fur and a small stubby tail that is only a few inches long. Unlike most cats, these cats love the water and their settlements are found not to far from the shore. Not surprisingly the locals generally call them the water cats.
This moniker is even more apt then at first glance because the Manix practice using their demonic energy to bend the water to their will. These techniques are equivalent to water magic, but have their origins in martial arts, and can be used for both offense and defense. One common use for their water magic is to fish as that is the main food source of their villages.
Martial arts are a key component of the Manix culture, and all are raised from birth in these skills. However, this is not due to a love of violence. The Manix see martial arts more as a game or a competition rather than to hurt someone. They love testing each other’s strength and seeing who comes out on top. Of course if their family is threatened or if someone is in trouble they will intervene with their full strength. After all one of the things the Manix can’t stand the most is “someone being mean.” It is recommended that all who do business with the Manix be martial artists as a strong showing can get the trader a good deal.
The traditional dress of the Manix are Sahuagin scales. Because the Manix are heavily endowed they don’t fit entirely well, but the Manix view this as one of their charms. It is considered a rite of passage in their tribe to go find a Sahuagin and defeat them in combat. Those that win claim the scales. This doesn’t really harm the fish person, but is merely unpleasant. Seeing a large number of stripped Sahuagin is a sure sign that there is a Manix village nearby.
The Manix challenge males they like to a martial arts competition. However, unlike other martial mamono winning, or even putting up a good fight is not the key to their heart. In fact the best way to avoid their affections is to win. Should a male beat the cat they would probably cry and say they were mean while running off to lick their wounds.
When fighting a potential mate the key thing is their personal taste combined with their predatory nature. If the cat thinks “The face that guy is making is really cute”, “I love chasing him”, or “That guy is really hot” the male is likely to be pounced on at the end and claimed by the Manix. The new husband is likely to spend the rest of his days “playing” with the Manix, being chased, and gently sparring.
The Manix have a special relationship with the Hinezumi. As they are both martial artists but have opposing elements the Manix view them as a good challenge. The Hinezumi on the other hand have an instinctive fear of the cats and try to avoid them.
Should a Manix defeat a Hinezumi they will proceed to lick them all over. According to the Manix they do this because the Hinezumi “taste good.” This dousing in the Manix’s “water” will force the Hinezumi into their submissive white mode making them unable to resist. If done long enough the Hinezumi can have an awaking and develop a masochistic personality, actively begging the Manix for attention. In these cases they form a permanent bond and seek a mate together
