The scourge of the coast, swamps, and riverside, Spinos are immediately identifiable by the large and menacing sail growing out of their backs. This along with their fearsome claws, powerful tail, and webbed feet makes a single Spino a powerful threat in the shallow waters. They are a large and fearsome mamono surpassing even Dragons and Tyrannos in terms of overall size. Despite this however, the musculature and bone structure of a Spino is of a far lighter build than that of their land bound rivals making them significantly weaker and less durable in order to be able to move more effectively in the water. The pinnacle of the Spino family of mamono, they like many of the most powerful mamono can return to their primal form from before the rise of the current Demon Lord.
An apex predator of coasts and wetlands, Spinos are powerful amphibious mamono, rivaled only by the largest and most powerful breeds of Werecroc, the stronger breeds of sea dragon, and the mighty Titanalamia. So long as they are in their domain of the shallow water, there is nothing they fear and no challenge they won't face. Their strength and fearlessness lends to them to great success in their species preferred trade, Piracy.
Most Spinos live their lives traveling the coasts and rivers, raiding towns, looting trade vessels, and spending their ill gotten booty partying themselves into a stupor before going out to do it again. Using their fearsom might to take what they can and their amphibious prowess to escape pursuit. Often the richer and more powerful Spinos will have bought ships and crews of lesser Spino Family mamono and other sea and swamp dwellers to take even more loot and throw even wilder parties. The more successful Spinos will often adorn themselves with expensive clothing to denote their rank as Captain of their vessel and to demand the fear and respect they believe they deserve. They will go into a terrifying rage if they feel themselves to be disregarded or disrespected, especially if one were to steal or disrespect their captains hat or their sail.
The sail of each Spino is unique in its shape, coloration, and patterns. It is a powerful identifier for them and is often viewed as a symbol of who they are. It is something that every Spino takes great pride in and thus no Spino would ever hide or cover up as to do so is both an ultimate act of submission and cowardice. The sail is also a dangerous weakpoint for a Spino. Many blood vessels run through it making injuries to the sail extremely dangerous to a Spino due to profuse bleeding and the spines holding it up are directly connected to the spinal column making the sail very sensitive.
In battle Spinos are vicious cutthroats, using whatever dirty trick they can to take what they want. Weaker creatures are often swatted aside in a single powerful blow while against more substantial threats a Spino will often use the superior reach of their long and powerful claws to keep their foe at bay until the Spino can wear them out or claim the upperhand in some other way, all the while keeping their sail safe from attack. A common strategy is to backaway while swiping at the foe until the Spino draws the foe into a favorable position or pull some from of trick like slinging mud into her foes face with her tail, or having something dropped on her foes head. Then as soon as her opponent is open for attack, the Spino overwhelms her foe with a flurry of savage blows. Because of their sail being a dangerous weakness, most Spinos tend to recruit lesser mamono in the region as part of her crew and rarely enters a fight without some of them watching her back, because of this and their style of fighting many of the warrior mamono consider Spinos to be cowardly and vulgar fighters and view them with a great deal of disdain. However despite their less than heroic behavior and methods, Spinos are often good leaders and their crew tend to be extremely loyal to them.
As can be expected of a mamono, one of the primary targets of a raiding Spino is the men. To a Spino and her crew, men are a valuable commodity, useful in trading with other mamono, a favored form of entertainment in their parties, and of course should a Spino take a liking to a specific man, she will not hesitate to claim him as her own. A man claimed by a Spino can expect to held in the finest luxury that she can offer as her most prized treasure, however, he is also expected to service her however she demands in return for this. A Spino will often spend every night ravaging her man and she will quite domineering in his daily life, putting a great deal of effort in making sure that he is both protected from any who would steal him away and trapped to prevent any escape. Only allowed to leave the Captains quarters under her direct supervision or the supervision of her most trusted crewmembers.
Over time a man can eventually earn a Spinos trust and the Spino will gradually permit more freedom for him. Eventually should a Spino believe that her man won't leave her, she will not only give him full freedom to roam her ship and hideout and even taking him with her when she leaves, unwilling to part who her most treasured booty.
Conversely, should the man prove himself able to best her. Able to outdrink, outfight, and out pirate her she will acknowledge him as superior to her and accept him as her Captain. She will forfeit command of her ship and her crew to him and take the position as his First Mate, keeping the crew in line. Should he have a symbol or make one for himself, the Spino to ceremonially dye her sail with that symbol to declair to the world who is her Captain and who commands her crew.
