Well, this all seemed like a big can of worms from what i read and, late as i may be, i'd like to give my two cents here.
Personally, when i first read about it, i was appalled by the whole "corruption" schtick this setting had. But after reading more and more, be it various entries or books or even the authors answers, i came to the conclusion that the DE is less "brain-washing" and more "power high" (that people get used to it over time and come to their senses), and the entire "red and dark" imagery is simply an extreme case of DarkIsNotEvil. I admit there are many things i as well dislike about this setting (the BIGGEST offender are Alps and anything related to gender-bending). But despite all the writing problems the author may have and the clusterfudge that the mish-mash of too many kinks can cause, i can see his intentions clearly with the setting and i'm sure everything IS INDEED better than described (e.g. MG aren't really that pushy, the likes of Willmarina are STILL protecting people despite of what she said, families are likely to be FIXED rather than broken, etc). All in all, the MGE universe still looks like a good place to me and i'm willing to stick with it, for better or for worse. If it really did have all the above mentioned issues, i would've droped it years ago...
