I know it's a fool's mistake to apply real-world logic to most fictional settings, but I'm doing it anyways. I'm just having trouble figuring out just how massive some of the non-humanoid monster girls are.
Most of the lamia family are really ENORMOUS. If you look at how the diameter of the snake-part changes, it seems like only about 3/5 of the snake is present in that lower half. While it seems to change from image to image, most of them seem to be in the high 20 or low 30 foot range. That would suggest that the whole snake would be just under 50 feet long...Â
This is... huge. but only the beginning. The snake part of them is really wide, too. As in, almost 2 feet in diamter. The Green Anaconda is the heaviest snake in the world, the green anacdona, is a foot in diamter at the largest, and weighs a top of just under 500 pounds. The thing is, most of the snake is much narrower, and they are almost 10 feet shorter than just snake part of most lamia!
The immense prehistoric Titanaboa was about 42 feet long, so about the right scale for the snake part, but was slightly wider at maximum. it weighed in at an estimated 2,500 pounds. Because the whole snake isn't present, it would seem like the snake part of lamia would only weigh more like 1,500, but there's still a problem. For some, like the Basilisk, this makes sense, but others, like the Bunyip, don't taper as gradually as a real snake's tail. Because of the extra width in the last 10 feet of the tail, this would seem to (based on the extra percent of the total size compared to weight, I don't want to do the real math) add 200-300 pounds. and some lamia are almost definitly larger than the official artwork...
With the human part (which is probably a comparatively puny 70 pounds) this means some lamia probably weigh over a ton (!). Am I the only one who thinks this seems crazy? Does anyone better at math than me have a better estimate?Â
Other monster girls, like the centaur family members, almost all seem to weight ~1,500 pounds and stand at over 6 feet tall. I guess I've never really thought about the size of all this stuff before, but it's sort of staggering.
I can't even get a grasp on the wingspan of most of the harpies or the tentacle length of the Kraken, but almost all of them seem enormously bigger than any similar real-world creature.
If anyone else has any ideas or legitimate calculations, I'd love to see them!
