You are a shopkeeper, the owner of your very own general store, which you and your father built with your own two hands. After he sadly passed on, he left the shop in your hands, and you've put everything that he has taught you to good use. From managing inventory to being a good host to your customers, to even doing delivery for those who aren't able. It's not an easy life, though, and sometimes, you wish that you could just sell the shop and find something else to do with your life. But you know that your old man wouldn't want that, so you persevere.
You wake up bright and early one morning, preparing for another day of selling items to random people for various reasons. As you are settling down for breakfast, you read in the news about a rouge Ogre who has been sighted somewhere in the town, and that anyone with information on the creature should report it to the guards at once. You fight the urge to roll your eyes at the last part, as it finishes with its usual warning of failing not to do so is punishable by law, where you could be fined, charged for treason, etc.
You sigh as you finish your breakfast, and ready yourself for the day. You still have an hour or so before you open up, so you pass the time by counting up the number of supplies that you'll have to order before the week is over. As your preoccupied, you hear the chime of the entrance bell, meaning someone has entered. You turn around, prepared to apologize and explain to the person that you are not open yet, but stop. You look in surprise and shock, as a creature, whose left side of her body is bloody, hops over the counter where you are standing, and hides beneath it. She speaks not a word, but only looks at you, her eyes wild, yet you see that she is scared.
As you trying to process what is happening, you hear angry and loud shouts coming from outside. Peeping behind the counter, you see that it is members of the Order, obviously trying to find and capture the creature who is now hiding under your counter. As the voices fade away, you look below and see that the creature has passed out, still holding onto her side.
You kneel down to take a closer look at her, and your eyes grow wide as you recall her picture in the news. She is the Ogre that the Order is currently hunting. Your mind flashes to the last part of the news, which talks about punishing anyone who withholds information concerning the creature. You take another look at the Ogre, who is still unconscious, and peek up the counter again, as you can still feel the troops of the Order moving around outside.
You know what could happen if the Order finds out that you are harboring a monster. Not only would you face execution and lose your shop, but the name of you and your family would be stricken from the records, and would be cast down as a monster sympathizer. Your descendants would never have a life of their own. However, at the same time, you've never considered yourself a staunch supporter of the Order. In fact, you downright despise most of them. Hiding a monster under their noses could be considered the ultimate slap in the face to them...
...but are the consequences really worth it?
What do you do?
