Remorhaz
Family / Type: Centipede / Bug
Habitat: Snowy region, Frozen Tundra, Glaciers
Disposition: Lustful, ferocious
Diet: Meat, wild animals, etc.
These powerful and predatory monsters are cousins of the oomukade who, instead of living in the temperate region of Zipangu, reside in frigid mountains and icebergs. The most apparent difference between the oomukade and the remorhaz are their bodies. Because of their frigid environment remorhazes have developed a thick layer of fat covering their large bodies to trap heat which gives them a full figured, huggable form. Unlike the Zipangu centipedes these mamono lack venom, having substituted it for a broiling liquid called thrym. In place of venom glands a remorhaz has thrym glands lining their bodies that glow a burning red. Thrym is another adaptation to the frozen wastelands remorhazes reside in. While their fattier bodies hold on to heat, thrym produces the warmth they keep.
Remorhazes lead solitary lives in the frozen wastes, often spending decades or more doing nothing but burrowing, hunting, and the like for years on end. With the isolated, and unforgiving habitat they live in it's understandable that human settlements are a rarity to them. While highly intelligent these monsters function off of instinct more than anything, and will follow that instinct to the best of their ability with their intelligence. For instance, if a remorhaz couldn't catch food because it's prey escaped an ambush the monster would lie under the ice and rapidly melt away the ground it's prey stood on. Failure does not exist to them. Only need and want register in their minds. And they REALLY want human men. In the time of the previous demon lords the thrym of remorhazes was purely for survival and had no impact on the monsters disposition. However, with the rise of the current demon lord thrym has developed a new side effect. Because demonic energy is naturally infused into the liquid's intense heat it warms the remorhaz too well and inflames a scorching lust in them. Guided by their instincts as a monster the remorhaz will roam it's vast territory in search of a mate, often making an intricate, and sprawling tunnel system along the way. Using their antenna to detect heat and spirit energy they will burst from the icy ground, snatch their prize up, and then immediately return to their burrows. At the insistence of their instincts the remorhaz will often claim their new husband as soon as they can in attempt to calm the raging heat in their loins, furiously slamming their hips onto his while injecting him with thrym from swift bites from the maxillipeds around their necks.
