This is not safe, so let me back that up over several paragraphs.
The reason for undeath in dark souls is not the same as in MGE.
In Dark Souls, Humans are naturally eternal beings, because they are one with the darkness.
The humans were cursed by Gwyn with the darksign, their bodies were given new forms, and they were no longer eternal, cursed to die so long as the first flame burned.
As the fire fades, Gwyn's curse vegins to lose power, and humans stop dying, even returning from the grave.
They are not assuming an unnaturalstate, this undeath IS their natural state.
The problem is that the dark spreads, from within the humans, it pools in the depths of the world and slowly rises heavy as stone and moist as the sea.
The dark will bury kingdoms if it is not buried first, and the violent transformations it produces might even counteract the influence of the demon lord herself.
How can you be so sure? Humans as eternal beings in the Dark Souls-verse? Is there any further evidence of this theory? You know that the Dark Souls was one of the Fourth Lord Souls that is found within the Flames during Disparity that emits Light and Dark. Light means Life and Dark means Death.
The Lord Souls that Gwyn, the Witch of Izalith and Nito had the Souls of Life. The Furtive Pygmy has the Soul of Death.
Gwyn was afraid is due to the incoming Darkness that grants Death that strips away from their Immortality. In their prime times, the Gods were powerful beings and lived longer because they are the Light and the Flames represents Life. The Dark Souls on the other hand represents Death because Humans are mortals. However, the Dark Soul is also found within the flames, despite it's linked with Dark, as long as the Flames still lingers and with enough power that is consumed by having Souls for the Dark Soul, that said person can live longer. The Pygmy Lords that have the true Dark Souls are still alive because the Age of Fire has not ended yet that prolonged their fragile lifespan until Gael killed them.
Without the Flames, it can only made them Mortals.
As the Flames faded, the Gods are weakened. Gwyn liked the Flames and did created the Darksign to the Humans that have died without achieving their Purprose while the real nature of the Darksign was meant to choose any humans at random and one of them can be the Chosen Undead to relink the Flames to prolong the Age of Fire, extending the Age Gods means to prolonging their cycle of Immortality despite the Gods themselves have turned into Hollows which is still counted as Immortal, but killable.
The Age of Darkness meant the Age of Mortals. Immortality is not their natural state of the Humans, mortality is.
When a carrier of the Dark Soul is in the MGE Universe, Darkness won't take over since it the MGE world has it's own Metaphysics. Therefore, the Dark Soul can literally counteract the influence of Demonic energy since it is Dark itself. But the lack of the Flames meant this carrier is nothing more but a Mortal and cannot revived, yet it can be slowly becoming more powerful by consuming Souls by slaying their Opponents as long as they can survive. But does not make the person immortal.
