I had wandered into town about a week ago, mainly fulfilling contracts at the local Adventurer's Guild hall.
I had heard rumours of some Mad Scientist setting a lab of sorts in the old castle that loomed over the town, but with no one actually owning the castle itself and as long as the scientist himself didn't harm anyone, then there was no reason anyone to try and evict him from the castle.
I had just come back into town after completing a job for the Guild as a freak flash thunder storm had just rolled through when I saw a strange light from the castle window and heard a cry for help.
Following the cry, I came to the strangest sight I have ever seen, A Hellhound grovelling at the feet of a of a Kobold who was sporting a domineering sneer.
"I-I'm sorry for doing t-those things to you, I-I'll be a good girl from now on. I swear." the Hellhound whines submissively
"You got that right, from here on out, I'm the boss." the Kobold growls, she quickly pulls back her fist pretending she about to strike the submissive Hellhound causing her to flinch.
"B-but haven't I also protected you all this time." the Hellhound squeaked.
The Kobold was about to respond when she noticed me, her sneer turning to a predatory grin.
"Tell you what. If you help me catch and tame this one then I might be willing to share." the Kobold tells the Hellhound while pointing at me. The Hellhound glance between me and the Kobold, seemingly hesitant about the idea of pouncing on a Human.
The Kobold however stalked way towards me, I keep one hand on the hilt of my sword while my free hand I kept hidden as I readied a Paralysis spell.
"I can't wait to get you between my legs." The Kobold whispered to herself before pouncing, as she did, I quickly dodged to the side and touching he with the Paralysis spell.
She slumps limply to the ground, the hesitant Hellhound now keeping her distance.
Using some rope that I had on me I tied up the Kobold so she wouldn't cause any more trouble.
Looking between the Hellhound and the Kobold, I couldn't believe what I've just seen. A meek submissive Hellhound and a dominant, aggressive kobold? then I turned my gaze to the castle, I bet it has something to do with whatever that crazy scientist was doing in his lab.
"You, Hellhound..." I point at the Hellhound who flinched when I spoke "... carry your... boss and follow me." at first I expected the Hellhound would simply ignore my order stating how she should be the one giving the orders but then she simply walked over to the Kobold and hefted her on her shoulders.
As we walked through the streets, we saw it wasn't just the Hellhound and Kobold that were affected. As I passed by a tailor shop, the snarky, sadistic Arachne that owned it was tied up with her own web begging her husband to ravage her harder like a complete masochist and the bright and cheerful Fairy whose husband runs a sweet shop in town looked like she was utterly miserable, all the other Mamono in town had their natural personalities completely reversed in some way.
We reach the gateway leading the castles main courtyard, the portcullis is down, blocking our way, I guess the Scientist wasn't keen on visitors. With an acid touch spell, I wipe a finger along parts of the metal grid, it hisses for a moment before I can yank off part of the portcullis creating a space large enough for us to pass through.
We follow the sound of load machinery until we come to a door, I bang hard on the door hoping that the scientist could hear it above the ruckus.
A man opened the door, his scruffy hair was dark grey, he wore what seemed to be a dirty lab coat, stained with gods only know what, the goggles he wore barely hid the dark circles under his eyes. "Go away! I'm conducting a very delicate experiment!" before I could say anything in return, he slams the door in my face.
Non to happy having the door slammed in my face, I draw my sword and with of force blast spell, reducing the wooden door to nothing more than flying splinters.
I enter a large room with the Hellhound carrying the bound Kobold close behind, the room is full of strange machines, large electrical conductors overhead, in the centre an operating table, on it a body draped in a burial shroud, the mad scientist standing next to a counter loaded with vials of liquid, piles of notes, the scientist himself looking at me with mix of shock and fear, likely because I have my sword drawn.
"N-now, now, let's n-not do anything hasty." he stutters nervously, raising his hands up.
"Are you aware that your experiments are effecting the Mamono in town, right?" I ask pointing my sword at him.
"Y-You what?" he asks, his fear turning the scepticism.
"See for yourself." I say point to the Hellhound who was timidly looking about the room as she set the Kobold down, who was now struggling against her bonds all the while cursing under her breath about how she going to rape me senseless when she gets out.
He stared wide eyed in disbelief at the pair before I asked "So, what exactly are you trying to do here, anyway?" I ask curiously. sheathing my sword.
"I...err... was trying to revive my wife, she's been dead for about a month now." he says while looking somewhat downcast at the body on the operating table.
"Couldn't you use a Raise dead spell? There are plenty of book stores in town that sell books on Necromancy. I even have a copy." I say, pulling the book out of my pack.
"Pfft, Magic? Hocus Pocus. Superstitious nonsense!" the scientist scoffed "Through my research I've been able to build a device that use the power of lightning and the latent Demonic Energy from the Monsters in town to reanimate dead tissue." he says proudly as he gestures to the machinery around the room "Though somehow it must be creating some kind of by-product that reverses the personality of the local monsters." he ponders as looks over to the two Wolf Mamono.
"If that's so Doc, then why hasn't your wife come back to life?" I ask, pointing to the still dead body on the table.
"Because the device hadn't built up a substantial charge for the reanimation process, I'm afraid, unfortunately the lightning storm had dissipated before the device could fully charge."
"I could use lightning magic charge the machine." I suggest, showing the sparks of a lightning spell that arched between my fingers.
The Scientist cupped his chin in thought "I suppose it could, as much as I hate the idea of using magic..." the scientist mutters, conflict clear in his voice.
"Does it really matter if the device's charged with natural lightning or not?" I shrug. "I...suppose not..." he sighs "...see those cables leading to the generator? Aim you spell at those." the scientist points to a set of exposed cable that came down from the ceiling likely from conductors on the castle roof.
After moving closer to the generator and with a hand gesture the lightning spell is cast, electricity flowing from my hands to the cables.
"It's working! The device is charging! Keep it up!" The Scientist calls out excitedly as I focus more mana into the spell.
Before long I hear the Scientist call out again "Finally! Its charged!" I take this as my cue and stop casting the lightning spell, at this point I realize just how much mana I've spent as I feel utterly exhausted, barely able to make way back over to the were the scientist had his hand on a switch.
"Here we go." he mutters hopefully as he pulls the switch. strange purple energy spark out from the conductors above the operating table, hitting the veiled body which twitches and thrashes violently until the device's charge depletes.
All was silent for a moment before the body rose up off the table, pulling off its shroud, revealing a fully regenerated Zombie with bolts screwed into her neck.
"SHE'S ALIVE!!! My dear Elizebeth's alive!" The scientist cries out in jubilation as he goes the embrace his newly arisen wife "Viiiiccctoooooorrr." Elizebeth groans at the sight of her husband as she shuffles her way over to him.
"Ahh. It's nice to see a couple back together, isn't it?" a rough female voice asks from behind as a pair off large furry arm drape themselves over my shoulders and I feel large breasts press against the back of my head.
I look up to see the Hellhound leering down at me with a lustful and overconfident smirk.
"I'm guessing your back to normal?" I ask her only for her grin to widen.
With much of my mana spent I'm too tired at this point to resist as she hefts me onto her shoulders.
As she turns to leave the Kobold pipes up "Umm, B-boss, W=what about me?" the Kobold whimpers.
"I may be willing to share. but you're gonna be watchin' when I take the first few turns as punishment." she say in domineering manner as she looks down on the tied-up Kobold.
"Aww, no fair." the Kobold whines as the Hellhound tucks her under her free arm.
With that the Hellhound carries me and the Kobold off to one of the castle bedrooms, leaving Victor with his wife Elizebeth.
