Main Entry
A strange subspecies of the Gazer species, that once formed something of a symbiotic bond with dragons of all monsters, in the past. They house a single eye like the Gazer but their tendrils are filled with innumerable amounts of jagged, tongue-filled maws instead of eyes and smatterings of red scales can be seen upon their form, though other colors have been seen based on the dragon they intend to mimic. Unlike Gazers, they usually bear a less spiteful countenance but are just as arrogant if not more so thanks to their connection with dragons and can hold the same obsession with ‘possessions’ as a dragon does with their hoard.
n
Their many maws also allow them to spew out spells to attack or disparage foes but unlike a Gazer, an Evil Eye’s magical power lies more focused on destruction and don’t have the sheer versatility like they do, shooting off fireballs, lines of electricity and frost rather than hypnosis or other utility-based magics. Their main eye, which usually glows a yellowish-green however is much more powerful in its ability to produce spells and its specialty appears to be geared towards using watered-down versions of other monsters' gaze attacks like a Basilisk’s venom or a Medusa’s turn to stone. Such gaze-attacks are usually accompanied with a bright flash of light from their eyes and require for the other to look at them for the effect of these gazes to work. An Evil Eye’s gaze can just as easily replicate the effects of a dragon’s breath from their eye as well and are talented in the breath that their scales are based-towards, red-scales are good at producing fire breaths, white-scales, ice-breaths. This lack of versatility and utility is offset by the fact that an Evil Eye has strength and durability that almost reaches the level of a dragon and can therefore take more of a beating in a fight than their black-haired counterparts.
n
Often, an Evil Eye holds into the same principles of a dragon, from which they guard a cavern or ruin as their home, making use of their magic to produce traps and the like to deter those from its hoard of trinkets. They scour the area for travelers to demand boons to allow safe passage, if they refuse or fight back, their energy from their rod sucked clean with their many licking maws that extend out towards them to bind and suck, which is just as fine a boon as gold. If they’re women, a small fee of being a guard for their lair for a time is also acceptable, simply monsterizing them for their energy if high-quality is also acceptable in their minds.
n
Rarely do they deign themselves to indulge with their main body in a man or woman, but those that catch their interest or fancy may have them appearing if they’re in the area to become a proper ‘possession’ of themselves. Unlike dragons, when they spot a man they fancy, they drop any pretenses of being haughty and prideful and just go straight into making them theirs by sending them into the throes of pleasure, their main mouth when compared to their licking maws is seen as heavenly in comparison and as such they save such a tool for when a man is truly theirs. Women that interest them, however, are free game in that regard.
n
With a husband, they can be seen as more relaxed, but never adopt the prospect of becoming a ‘female lizard’ like a dragon and still hold a dominant aspect to their life with their husband. Though they never attempt to become too overly pushy, merely looking at them with deep love in their eye and engaging in such love whenever the two feel like it… which is probably a lot.
n
Evil Eye’s birth their children in clutches of eggs of 1 - 3, and while one of these Vile Eyes (what they’re referred to as younglings) is always the same scale color as their mother, the other two can have different colors, indicating a different kind of dragon that they refer towards and possess a talent in the breath weapon that the dragon also utilizes. As a note, Evil Eyes are also resistant to the element of the breath weapon they can replicate.
Lore Entry
In ages past, Evil Eyes were created by a demon lord who was displeased by the failures of two of his generals which were a dragon and a gazer. In his fury, he bound the two together for where one failed in might and the other failed in magic, bringing the two together would surely fix this problem, no? The gazer’s body was haggard and weak, and succumbed to its wounds till only its main eye remained and was then implanted into the dragon’s own. Through this intense surge of magic, new life was formed, the new eye held in its magic of the gazer if a bit diminished and a new mind.
n
The two would silently interact with one another and the new being shared in the dragon’s plight and desire for vengeance against it. The combination eventually gained back the favor of their lord as their new power made for an deadly alliance of physical strength and mental magic. When the dragon finally met its end as his lord fell with him, the new being pulled all of the energy of its fallen comrade into itself and ripped itself out of the skull of the beast.
n
Covered in red-scales like the dragon, with many mawed-tentacles that sparked with the potential of destructive magic, floating in the air, and a single gleaming eye marred with lips of teeth around what would be its eyelid, the first Evil Eye was born into the world. It didn’t have much time to celebrate however as it had to flee the ensuing in-fighting from the rest of the monsters now descending into chaos.
n
Wise from its years of learning from the dragon and the beings around it, it decided to sequester itself away from most of the world for a time. Until it started to propagate, producing eggs and thusly the first of its brood, the Vile Eyes, young and without the power gained from absorbing a dead dragon’s these creatures intended to function as their propagator before, to be placed in the eye of a dragon and grant the monsters the same magical prowess.
n
Not the same as the first Evil Eye, these beings were weaker and with less magic than the first, but just enough to be seen as worthwhile for most young dragons and they grew alongside their symbiotic host. In years-time, the number of Evil Eyes grew slowly and the knowledge of them to the Order and other human factions became more ever-present if also ever-elusive, dragons were rare, dragons with Vile Eyes implanted into them rarer, and dragons that died at an old and powerful enough age to sustain a Vile Eye’s transition into an Evil Eye, the rarest of them all.
n
But like most rare monsters, their undisputed power allowed the ones that did make it to survive and thrive. The coming of the succubus lord while stifling their ability to form symbiotic bonds, made an Evil Eye’s ability to reproduce and go to that stage all the more easier. Ensuring that the Evil Eyes will not fully die out unless one was particularly motivated.
Interspecies Entry
Evil Eyes as their pride is just slightly less than the average dragon, allows their kind for the most part to hire mamono for their services as guards. They treat such guards nicely and with rooms of their own for it would not be good for their new ‘possessions’ to be treated poorly even if such possessions are ‘temporary’… For the most part, an Evil Eye is just as much happy to bring about a male who did not pay with a boon in the area to a mamono as it is to just let them go after sucking them dry.
n
Rarely does an Evil Eye allow their guards to share in their husband unless they’re feeling especially generous and he doesn’t mind or their husband is shown to be in that sort of thing in the first place. Evil Eyes favor mamono that comes in packs or groups, like werewolves or goblins but are just as easily satisfied if they hire a stronger single guard or duo, they do like seriousness in their guard’s work and are often fit to reward them more if they’re not slacking off.
n
Evil Eyes are territorial to a degree and are often to ask of boons of traveling monsters in the area as well, draining them if they fight back or refuse to give them a trinket of value towards them. They are slightly more whimsical in this regard however and may just give the monster a glaring eye from the darkness before slinking back to their caverns. Particularly powerful monsters are given either a wide-berth or are talked to in a much more professional and elegant manner.
n
If the other monster is another Evil Eye, the two mamono typically say nothing and go about their way, sometimes, very rarely do they speak and if they do it is of their tales and of tactics the two employ in their bases, trying to find ways to improve such things if able. If the monster is a Gazer however, they, strangely enough, coddle them, much to the more spiteful mamono’s embarrassment which sometimes results in fighting of which the Evil Eye will gladly abide with them to do so.
n
If the mamono is a dragon or one of its subspecies however, the Evil Eye usually turns submissive and either retreats quickly or approaches with the desire to help the dragon. For the most part, the Evil Eye wills herself to act as a sort of advisor towards the dragon, intent on helping them with their magical power to aid in the dragon’s more physical might. Even if the dragon is lesser than them in power, the Evil Eye will still usually help them as if they were the lesser in both power and prestige. The air of an Evil Eye first meeting a dragon or dragonkin is usually filled with… giddiness on the Evil Eye’s part and being weirded out on the dragon’s.
Notes
An Evil Eye skilled in polymorph magic could potentially turn all of her maws into eyes, such magic is easier for the Evil Eye in this regard due to their connection with Gazers though it doesn’t make them any better at magic, it does grant them the ability to have depth-perception and more ways to look at things of course.
Typically speaking, an Evil Eye has 8 - 12 tendril maws sprouting from their back, such maws can vary in size but are usually consistent and can extend out from 5 - 15ft depending on the individual tentacle.
Vile eyes don’t have any tentacles until they reach 15 years of age, and are only capable of casting basic magic with their eye instead.
In the past, Evil Eyes reproduced asexually, meaning their ‘genetic diversity’ was a dead-end, requiring for a Vile Eye to become a different kind of Evil Eye by choosing a different type of dragon to form a bond with.
