“Thank you, dears, and goodnight.” I grin showing off my pearlescent fangs.
“Mm, we appreciate your time.” Nick nods.
Taking my treasure’s hand I stand up and leave the room quickly.
“Come on treasure we should be leaving.” Navigating my way back through the crowds of people I pressed towards the exit. Stepping outside I followed the path back to the winding staircase beside the cart where we had left our equipment. Retrieving my long sword from the cart I buckled it into place on my back and waited as a Kikimora retrieved Nick’s grey overcoat. Once Nick had slung the coat about his shoulders I started down the pathway back towards the TARDIS.
(Nick’s Perspective.)
“Talea wait up!” I cried out as she walked quickly and slipped inside the blue box and slammed the door. Following behind her I closed the wooden exterior doors as I entered and the silver interior doors whirred closed as soon as I stepped into the console room. Thallenva was busying herself around the hexagonal panels of the main console, the emerald hue of the displays clouding over her crimson eyes. The inlaid golden lights of the three tired hexagonal fixture that connected to the time rotor and rose above the console was creating kaleidoscopic patterns in Talea’s wintry wings, giving her an ethereal glow.
Prancing lightly up the few steps to the raised hexagonally shaped obsidian pedestal on which the console sat I tugged at my overcoat. Tossing it over one of the six swirled stone monoliths that sat vigil on lit golden bases of light that crowned the six sides of the hexagon I sighed and ran a hand through my hair.
Talea was absorbed in her work so much that she didn’t even notice Silmë manifest next to her in a flash of blue light. She just kept pacing around the console angrily throwing switches and mashing buttons. Shrugging at Silmë as she stood behind Talea and pointed at her I mouthed ‘I don’t know’ and shook my head.
“What’s the matter young one?” Silmë grasped Talea’s shoulder and squeezed lightly as I came and stood next to the console.
“Nothing Emma, I just want to go home!” Talea muttered gruffly and shrugged.
“Well that’s completely untrue Thallenva.” Silmë chided Talea and forced her to look into her green eyes. “Something’s bothering you, what is it?”
“Nothing! I said it was nothing!” Thallenva tried to brush Silmë’s hand away, but my mother held her fast in her firm grip.
“Eh Talea you might not…” Seeing the serious expression on Silmë’s face made me involuntarily shudder as I remembered the same creased frown from my youth when I’d misbehaved and I dropped the sentence. “And now she’s fixing the ribbon in her hair.” I whispered in slight discomfort as I watched her adjust the emerald ribbon in her hair and smooth out her fiery trusses before she breathed out a low sigh. “Next her voice is going to go all cool and collected like an icy blizzard.” I whimpered and winced.
“Thallenva…Why are you lying?” Her voice came out like a cold wind stinging against my cheeks, and I was on the other side of the console. “Are you going to tell me what’s wrong you one? We just want to help, that’s all.”
“Because I-I feel so selfish Emma! These people are hurting and in pain but I was thinking about myself during the summit! I was hoping to ask about the Losgarian technology, to see if there was a way we could adapt it to create a cure for my illness! But their technology is ages behind ours and I realised there was no way they’d be able to help!”
“Even so you still pledged to aid them. That’s honourable! You agreed to ally yourself with them simply because it was the right thing to do.” I grimaced. “Talea I understand, we both do.” I gestured to Silmë. “It’s alright to be scared. We’ll get through this!”
“Here now dry those eyes.” Silmë dabbed at Talea’s eyes and put her arm around her. “Come with me, I’ll make you a nice cup of Earl Grey and we can play a nice game of chess. That always helps you relax.” She whispered as she hugged her from the side and led Thallenva through a corridor flanked by stone columns and out of the console room.
Smiling at my mother as she turned to look back at me I gave a quick thumbs up before throwing the dematerialisation lever. Watching the silver bullet shaped core in the middle of the time rotor begin to rise I sighed and leaned against the console. Hearing the wheezing and groaning of the engines filled the console room as we faded into the Time Vortex brought me a sense of comfort. Sighing I followed after the duo, maybe I could get a cup of coffee!
(I had a fantastic time doing this with you folks. I can't wait for the next part when it does come out.
Cheers,
The Weary TimeLord.)
