Location: Zipangu, village w/small castle (garrison of 100 soldiers)
Character: soldier (half a year of experience)
Combat experience: training courses, some self training
Magic: Night vision
Equipment: Light armor, Iron sword, parry shield
You are a soldier garrisoned at a small castle in a village within Zipangu. You are relatively inexperienced compared to other soldiers there, but you feel you can hold your own. Your skills are a little different than what other’s were trained in. You focus more on counter attacks, dodging and parrying rather than blocking.
You’re placed at a newly constructed village, with wooden walls and watchtowers recently put in place. It doesn’t seem like it will be a hard job, the most you think you’ll have to do is stop petty crimes. Scouts return from a routine assignment and ask the captain to come with them to observe a strange anomaly. The captain, along with a few others, leave and go north of the village. That was at noon. Now, it’s two hours to sundown and they haven’t returned. “Is that normal?” you think to yourself.
Suddenly, a lookout reports that there is a large group of mamono approaching in the distance! Estimated to be over 100 monsters consisting of orcs and goblins as the main force. High level monsters were spotted, including a high orc, hobgoblin and… a minotaur!?
They are approaching the front of the village, and splitting into three groups. The group on the left consists of about 50 mamono, mainly orcs, led by a high orc. The group coming from the right consists of 50 mamono, mostly goblins, led by a hobgoblin. And lastly, the group coming straight for the front gate, 25 mamono strong, was a mix of orcs and goblins following behind a minotaur. It appears that they are going to attack in a pincer formation.
The citizens begin to panic, but calm down a bit when all the soldiers gather at the front gate. Despite not having a proper chain of command, it seems that some soldiers are willing to rise to the challenge.
“Do not fear!” yells one of the veteran soldiers. Everyone begins to line up, ready to receive orders. From them, ten veterans come to the front to face those lined up. It increased everyone’s morale when they recognized who they were. Would it be possible to win when we’re outnumbered, without a proper commander, and without reinforcements?
The left group consisted mainly of orcs and a high orc. Orcs weren’t necessarily strong, but with the presence of that high orc, and their large numbers, it will be a problem. The high orc is strong, fast and dexterous, but if she is subdued, it will be a big hit to enemy morale. The other orcs should lose their confidence, but the presence of other strong mamono
made you wonder if that would really be the case.
The right group of mostly goblins was being led by a hobgoblin. The goblins would be more challenging than the orcs due to their strength, but their leader may be easier to deal with. Although the hobgoblin is stronger than the rest, she is also slower. That may be best for your fighting style if you can capitalize on a mistake. Surely, neutralizing her would help your own troop’s morale.
But the most challenging group is coming straight for the front door. Despite having fewer numbers, the fact that there is a minotaur among them makes this quite dangerous. It would likely take most of the veteran soldiers just to deal with her, and that wasn’t accounting for the forces behind her. And besides the veterans also have to worry about the other dangerous threats. The high orc and goblins would be tough opponents for many soldiers.
You thought about what to do. Should you join the attack one one of the groups, or is defense the best option? There is also a safer choice of retreating, as there’s an exit in the back of the village that would lead to a wooded area. The woods didn’t have much ground cover, so it would be easy to run in, but also easy to spot you. You also don’t know what threats may lie in the forest, especially considering it’s a full moon tonight. You could find your way to a larger stronghold a get reinforcements. Surely that’s the safest choice… right?
Was there another option you haven’t considered?
For a moment, you wondered about the situation, and what would happen should you fall here, along with this village. It seemed abnormal that a group of mamono would gather like this, especially a minotaur, all the way out here. This posed the question if there are stronger mamono in command, watching and lying in wait. This village is a strategic spot that, if captured, could allow attacks on surrounding lands, meaning that more will gather here. This meant that the citizens and soldiers would become slaves for the manomo to let out their sexual desires, and take whomever they choose as a husband. You could only imagine what would happen if you fell prey to that minotaur, or the high orc… or any of them, really.
