Mordent is a slightly dreary land of moors and small forests. The grim air is wet between the bogs and the coasts which rest underneath the cliffs overlooking the Sea of Sorrows. The warm season is short, often marked by humidity while the winters are bitterly cold, often with storms of snow and sleet. Despite this, the people are often cozy and show sophistication and class despite the sometimes hard land they live in.
Dark Lady: Lilia Godfrey, Lady of Mordent
The People: The mordentish people are polite and respectful, but they don’t trust outsiders readily or immediately. This helped give them a habit of being able to talk for hours yet give nothing away about themselves. They are superstitious though, believing strongly in ghosts and take pains to ward them away and look for signs where one might be lingering. Despite this sense of superstition, the mordentish have strong common sense and aren’t given to fits of panic. They take stock of the situation and make a calm decision.
Religion: The Church of Ezra had a firm hold in these lands. It is often seen as the most benevolent, following Ezra’s lessons of compassion and kindness towards the lesser fortunate. Often the church specializes in putting the dead to rest or make blessings to keep ghosts and other spirits away.
Stance vs. Mamono: While the people of Mordent do stand opposed to the forces of mamono seeking to isolate and capture humans, they see some of the least amounts of conflict between humans and mamono. This is partially due to the majority of mamono being ghosts and other spectral undead who can hide or can’t affect the material world yet and also their secret community home in the House on Gryphon Hill.
Iconic Mamono: Ghosts are the Mamono who call Mordent home. With the dreary landscape and the open moors, people do not travel unless they have to and only on established roads. Ghost have plenty of free range to travel wherever they wish, sneaking to settlements to influence their erotic fantasies on the target of their lusts and affections. Many such spirits work a network of informants and spies to offer emotional support to the newly departed, return them to their loved ones, or find new homes for ghosts whose families will no longer welcome them.
Unique Exports: Mordent is home to some of the best authors and tales in the Land of Mists. Creepy stories, articulate novels, and encyclopedias of knowledge are all penned and bound by some of the greatest literary minds in the Land of Mists. Other cultured Domains constantly buy books from Mordentish authors.
Native Mamono: Ghosts, Phantoms, Will-O-Whisps, Vistani
Lilia Godfrey - Dark Lady of Mordent
Lilia was born to an aristocratic family of Mordent, the Godfreys, with her parents Wilfred and Estelle. The family was well respected and had much to be proud of, but their home life was anything but pleasant.
Wilfred was a miserable man who was never happy with anything he had, always envied his neighbours who he saw as having finer things, and nothing was ever good enough to earn his approval. Of course, for men like him, it was never his fault that life was always so disappointing. It was always the fault of someone else why he was so bitter and life was always just so ‘miserable’ for him.
Lilia could have buckled under her father’s miserable attitude and tyranny, but she had her mother’s spark and refused to buckle under his thumb. She had a fire and a zest for experience in her which she indulged in whenever she could get away from her father’s constant berating and his heavy hand.
Lilia grew up into a beautiful woman and had a number of young men hoping to marry her. She was of the proper age to be wed, but sadly she had not been given the chance. Her father, as miserable as ever, only saw the suitors as weasels trying to steal his fortune or hated enemies trying to insult him, and absolutely refused to allow anyone to marry his daughter. It seemed Wilfred was determined to make everyone in his life as cruel and miserable as he was.
Despite her father’s best attempts, Lilia refused to buckle. With the help of a rather lusty housemaid, Lilia got her hands of sensuous erotic stories ladies of Mordent were not supposed to have. She spent long hours in the night, pleasuring herself to the tales of forbidden love and lustful passion. Often she imagined herself in similar positions with a boy she secretly conferred with, the handsome Jules Weathermay.
Fantasy finally became reality when the helpful maid, and Lilia’s own mother, helped her and Jules meet for a secret rendezvous. Together, they explored their passions and Lilia was finally able to explore her fantasies. She practiced from her books, learning just what Jules liked in a bed partner. Both practiced all sorts of sexual positions, although Jules was shocked Lilia even knew what they were called, he was happy to explore them with his first love. It was the beginning of a torrid love affair both intended to see to marriage.
Tragically, their love did not last. One day, Wilfred was more miserable than ever and began berating Lilia for some non-existent flaw he always saw. Perhaps emboldened by seeing freedom with Jules, Lilia snapped back at him, calling him a miserable old man and a long list of names she referred to him as in her own mind. Sadly, one thing Wilfred would not tolerate was people talking back at him or calling him names. He raged like a man possessed and killed Lilia with his cane.
When he calmed down and realized what he did, and noticed his wife witnessing the event in horror, he quickly used the same cane to murder his wife and hid the evidence. Swiftly he covered up the crime and had it set up as if it were an accident. Between his influence and his ease of lying, the law enforcement believed it and the deaths were chalked up as a tragic accident.
But passionate spirits like Lilia and her mother did not go easily into the night.
The day after their funerals, Lila and her mother rose up as spirits. Not the mamono variety as Mordent had no such things as Mamono or the Chief God, but as regular spirits. Wishing for justice more than vengeance, they haunted their former home, forcing Wilfred to face up to what he had done.
Wilfred proved to be like any bully, a coward at heart. When faced with people he could not threaten, bully, or beat away, he fled from the spectral spirits to avoid facing the truth of his crime. Constantly the mother and daughter reminded him what he did, how cruel and miserable he was, what he robbed the two women of, and every crime he could not argue against and deny away like he would with a living person. These two knew him better than anyone and knew all his secrets.
In one sequence of events, the pair would have driven Wilfred to suicide where his spirit would eventually be drawn to a different Land of Mists. These events were much different.
In this sequence of events, a misty veil of fog descended on Mordent and with it, an entourage of clerics claiming to be from the Church of Ezra.
These priests and their followers had enacted a holy ritual, a fragment from a scroll Ezra brought with her to return back to her homeworld after her crusade was complete. The priests had to tinker with some parts, but they managed to punch a hole in the mists of the land, opening the way to Mordent.
The goal of the priests was to reconnect with the Chief God and bring reinforcements back to the Land of Mists and make a Second Crusade of Ezra and cleanse the land of mamono completely. Their ritual, although successful in making the portal, failed in taking them to the world of the Chief God or one where her influence was felt.
Coming behind the priests were the forces of Tatyana von Zarovich of Barovia and Septima Regina of Darkon, both knowing how dangerous the priest’s attempts would be if they succeeded and the risk their subjects would be at. Collecting the forces of vampires and zombies, they too pierced the portal and began to try and capture the priests before they could contact the Chief God of their faith.
With so much demonic energy pouring out from the Land of Mists, the Dark Powers were quick to do damage control. Since so much demonic energy was pouring into Mordent, the Dark Powers had no choice but to have the mist envelop Mordent and drag it back to the Land of Mists along with everyone in it. Even though no one there had completed an act of utmost gothic romance, it had to be done.
Having all this happen caused quite an earthquake which frightened many. Wilfred, already stressed to his limit from his wife and daughter forcing him to face his faults, died from a heart attack in the middle of the transition. If his soul passed on to his world’s afterlife or if it was caught in the space between was anyone’s guess.
As Mordent settled in its new home, Tatyana and Septima both withdrew their forces, knowing the free pass they had to leave their domains was swiftly vanishing. With both of them gone, the Dark Powers looked across their new land, searching for the the one with the most tragic romance, but still remained the most loving and erotic figure.
They soon found Lilia
In the Mists…
As the mist withdrew, Lilia found herself in a semi-solid form, all of her blemishes gone, including the wounds which took her life. Her clothing had changed to a sheer lace nightgown leaving little to the imagination. Her mother was in a similar state, possessing an ethereally solid form, but adorned in ghostly seductive lace with little to the imagination. All the signs of aging were gone, leaving her as buxom and beautiful as she was in her youth.
It wasn’t long before Lilia found herself falling into her erotic fantasies again, masturbating quite frequently. Her mother wasn’t far behind, fantasizing about a groundskeeper employed on the property. Mother and daughter bonded over their naughty thoughts, accidentally scaring several household staff away with their invisible moans as well as a maid finding Wilfred’s body.
As life continued in Mordent, Lilia soon began to hear the moans and fantasy pleasures of other ghosts across the land. Sometimes, she could even see other ghosts having sex with men if she closed her eyes and concentrated on a specific voice. Achieving a climax like none other, Lilia couldn’t help but whisper, “Let’s share naughty stories.”
Soon, ghosts from all over Mordent, new and ancient, gravitated towards the House on Gryphon Hill. Wails and cries echoed almost nightly from the house, scaring all but the bravest or most skeptical away. Ghosts and other spectral mamono filled the halls, eager to share their fantasies and erotic escapades with others who enjoyed a good ghost story.
Living (so-to-speak) vicariously through them, Lilia enjoyed herself immensely. Also the taboo of all the erotic tales and being able to witness such acts with the odd man who braved being near the mansion was delicious. It eventually wasn’t enough for Lilia, she wanted to feel physical love and pleasure again. With an idea in mind, she gave the second order which began her rule as Dark Lady of Mordent, “Let’s make our fantasies come to life!”
Current Sketch: Lilia rules Mordent almost like a ladies club for erotic stories or acting out their fantasies fit for any Mamono gathering. Often she networks with other ghosts who have husbands to help make connections and have single ghosts get the chance to find husbands of their own who would love them and help make their sexy dreams come true. Her first success was helping her mother nab the groundskeeper she lusted for, making for quite a floorshow once their union was finalized.
Lilia married Jules Weathermay, although it had to be in secret and Jules was expected to marry a living woman to continue his lineage. Lilia had no isses with that and after a wife was chosen for him, Lilia influenced her with her ghostly powers, making her as naughty and horny as any ghost, the three enjoying a polygamous marriage for many years. Even after Jules’ wife passed away, Lilia helped her as a new ghost continue their joint marriage to Jules. Although an old man now, he enjoys the comfort and care of his ghostly wives as they wait for him to complete his life where they will welcome him to the afterlife with one incredible honeymoon.
The Weathermay family has enjoyed Lilia’s favor for some time. Her stepson Daniel, now a man grown, has had the blessing of his tragically departed wife being returned to him as a ghost who he secretly hides away in his home from prying clergy eyes. Her step-grandaughters, Gennifer and Laurie, often were babysat by the affectionate ghost in their younger years, although they believe her to be an imaginary friend.
With the Church of Ezra so active in Mordent, Lilia works hard to circumvent their charms and magics so the people her ghostly followers desire can join with them and act out their treasured fantasies. Many ghosts in Mordent consider her the best matchmaker in the Domain. One of her current plots is to find the best possible matches for her step-granddaughters.
Appearance: Lilia appears as a woman just shy of her 20th birthday since that is when she died. She appears to have a human form, although her bust is a little bigger, her waist narrower, and hips wider among other features to match her fantasy self. Her hair is long and brown and tumbles, always swaying in some unfelt breeze. She is always in her lacy nightgown which makes her figure visible in the right light, making her something of an exhibitionist. She’s always ghostly pale with bright green eyes, but she’s always vibrant and full of energy.
Dark Gift: As the Dark Lady of Mordent, Lilia can draw in all spectral Mamono to her, consolidating her powers as more ghosts unleash their fantasies around her. This comes in handy as Lilia directs her friends around Mordent to spy on the Ezrites and search out bachelors for her friends and followers. When she wants to, Lilia can tap into any fantasy she wants from any ghost within her domain. If she concentrates on one, she can see it happening as if she were experiencing it. The picture is even clearer if the ghost in question is with their spouse. It helps on her nights when it’s her sister-wife’s turn with Jules or he’s too exhausted to really make love to her thanks to his advanced age.
