You live in a small, secluded village. The village is neither hostile nor unfriendly towards mamono, but it is wary of single mamono for a very good reason:
Every fifty years or so, almost all the single mamono in the areas near the village are driven into a mindless frenzy and sweep through the village in droves, instinctively abducting any man they can find and leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. In this state, they cannot even distinguish a single man from a married man. The cause of this event is unknown, and the mamono themselves can't remember anything they did in their maddened state.
The early warnings of this have begun, and the event itself is fast-approaching. You, just like every other villager, has been given the order by the village elder to choose between one of two tasks to protect the village:
Investigator: you must go out, track & observe the mamono rampage, and try to determine what's causing it. You'll be away from the village when the event occurs, and you'll have a small chance of finding out the cause of this event and preventing it in the future. But, if the mamono find you, you're on your own.
Defender: you must stay behind and help prepare the village. You'll be right in the path of the mamono, but at least you won't be alone.
What would you do?
