“Why do you keep doing it?” I mumbled, hardly able to look into her eyes.
Annah sighed as her face took on a pained expression. She tried to get closer to me, but I placed my hands on her shoulder and kept her back.
“Kyle! Please! I- I- I don’t know….I just can’t help it! I don’t want to hurt anyone! I don’t know why I keep doing it! But- but….” She stopped trying to get closer to me and crossed her arms over her body as if cold. “But it’s not like they die! I only-”
“-How is seriously injuring people excusable just because you didn’t kill them?!?” I almost screamed.
Annah placed her face in her hands and sunk to the ground. “What do you want from me? I don’t know! I can’t help it! Something happens inside me and I just lose control! I can’t stop it!”
She rose her face from her hands, her lips trembled and she reached out to me, her vivid red hair spilling in front of her shoulders as her emerald green eyes sparkled with her diamond tears. “Please! Kyle! Hold me! I need you!”
I felt a strange numbness all over my body as I took her hands, the numbness tried to hold in the painful longing I had throughout my core. The insane, unknowable, unreasonable, illogical love and pity she evoked within me.
Her kisses pierced through the numbness, latching on to my desire, ripping it forth and drowned my awareness. I only knew her, needed to be with her, that I forgave and loved her….and no matter how hard I tried….no matter how hard I struggled, I couldn’t stay awake after our love making, already knowing she would escape, slink into the shadows, and wet her blade on another helpless victim.
(later)
“Annah Farrel,” The dour judge said in monotone as he addressed my love from the stand, “Despite the overwhelming circumstantial evidence against you, the victim in question denies that it was you who attacked him. And since we lack concrete evidence, I have no choice but to let you go.” He pointed his gavel to her. “If you’re smart, you will leave this city and never come back. Your frequent appearances here will catch up to you, mark my words.” He banged his gavel down and I quickly exited the building and waited.
“Annah!” I cried out, as she started to bustle down the street. “Annah! Wait!” I shouted rushing past and through the crowd.
Annah glanced over her shoulder, her face looked strange, worn, almost unrecognizable from all the other times I have been with her. Her dull green eyes rested on me, grew hazy and she rushed off, faster than before.
“Annah! What’s wrong with you!?!” I shouted, rushing down the alley she slinked off into.
I reached the alley and looked down…..nothing…..it was a dead end, and there was only the usual debris that one would expect to see down any typical alleys here in the city.
I started to slink down the dark, narrow space. I noticed a stack of crates and barrels and noticed a door, cleverly hidden amidst the debris
I pushed it open and gasped to see a luxurious carpeted hallway lined with knives that had dried blood on them.
The walls were white with a chaotic jumble of words seeming to have been finger painted on.
I WONT KILL
STOP TELLING ME TO KILL
HERE IS YOUR BLASTED BLOOD! STOP TALKING TO ME
YOU HAVE TWO KNIVES FROM TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE LEAVE ME ALONE!
I walked on to a ominous heavy red-velvet curtain and slowly moved it aside.
