So I’ve been playing around with a scenario where the modern world is invaded by mamono for a while, but I would always run into problems, mostly with how to depict the acts of desperation humanity will sink to when they believe they’re fighting for their survival. But I think this version of the scenario might avoid those problems.
In this setting, I’m thinking humanity accidentally created a rift to another reality populated with thousands of monster girls, which turn out to all be psychic manifestations of a single greater entity. The idea for this entity actually came from Stephen King’s “It”, but instead of feeding on fear it feeds on desire and lust. The closest thing to her (the entity’s female, of course) true form is a collection of countless mesmerizing red/violet lights, referred to as “lovelights,” which are actually the souls of previously absorbed mortals who float in a state of perpetual bliss. The role of the monster girls is to seduce and absorb as many souls for the entity as possible.
For me, this concept sort of clarifies the “mamono paradise” idea, since humanity as we know it will cease to exist if the entity succeeds, but it will still exist in a state of eternal pleasure.
It also helps remove some of the moral ambiguity from fighting monster girls for me. I always felt weird about possibly hurting or even killing monster girls, even for the sake of preserving the human race. But if they’re psychic manifestations of a single entity, if they’re defeated they can just discorporate into silvery mist and reappear later.
Let me know if you guys like this idea and would want to read stuff set in it. Who knows, I might actually write something this time lol!l
