Silent:”Alright, here’s the quick debrief. General warton has put us on standby to test out an experiment ammunition. Once we come to an agreement, we will be giving an assignment to follow through with the test. Any questions?”
“... Yes sir.” Quinn would nod before staring at the ceiling. He had saved his team from the turret, and had possibly bought his lieutenant enough time to get to them by taunting the Kunoichi. And look where you ended up. He thought. If you hadn’t been so careless saving your friends... you did this to yourself.
”well the ammunition is made out of a material that not found on this earth but from the demon real. The effects of the material don’t harm the person directly. But it is not directly clear due to the lack of research”.
The team made their way to a special part of the base. Having set a few crates inside of a large white room with bulletproof glass to one side. Facing the glass stood General Warton, Team Operations manager, and a few scientists. As the team entered the lab they were greeted by the General.
General Warton:”Glad you could make it fellas. We got a lot of test to run and a lot of work to do”.
Warton:”we will begin the first test. Pick up your weapon and aim for the target”. A holographic blue circle the size of dinner plate hovered at the end of the chamber.
“First target. I’ll go first”. Knight aimed down the target and fired, emitting a purple muzzle flash. Once the bullet passed through the target. I quickly vanished and appeared at a further distance”.
Researcher:”our next test will determine Armor penetration. For this test you will be shooting different forms of materials. We will start with a wooden box”. A box touched the ground and landed infront of a halo Target.
Researcher:”we just need to see if it will go through”.
Researcher:”that’s a confirmed hit on the target Mr.Anders, nice shot”.
The box was replaced with thick glass.
“Now this next target is all yours BrightEyes. Do fire multiple rounds with you designated weapons for this one”.
Researcher:”no confirmed hit on the primary target BrightEyes”. The glass was then replaced with a skinny sheet of Metal. “This will be the last one for today. “Lieutenant. This last one is your target. fire multiple shots for this one”.
Knight took a kneel, Aimed with his rifle, and fired three shots. All three pierced the metal.
“No. Just thought I would tell you that your card will provide you to your personal room while you’re here. Once your out and capable again. Go and take a look. It’s past the armory, downstairs and at a left down the hall”.
"you are funny... come on just through here". Knight opened the door to let Araxes walk through before closing it and standing with the rest of the team.
Warton:"about time. now listen up! our satelites have picked up some disturbing information. Blacklust has been working on an experimental Mamono Based Automaton. however the experimental side of this brought some unpleasant effects in the european cotinent. you will be deployed there. from there, our OP will provide you more dept information".
Warton:”for this operation you will be authorized to escort a high value vehicle. Since your targets are experimental. Our experimental ammunition will be good for a trial run in the field. Any questions?”
Bright Eyes nodded at Knights statement and started following. However, he turned his attention to Matilda. “You seem quite happy. Excited for our first mission?” He’d ask, unaware of the true reason to her happiness.
“Me too!” Bright Eyes said with a smile whilst rubbing the back of his neck. It seemed he bought her lie completely. Finally, they’d see some real action, and they might be an,ento work together to help someone! “We can actually put our skills to the use!”
“Hello sir. It’s about the bullets... where’s Araxes?” He looked around before waving it off. “You’ll have to tell her this. The experimental bullets must not be used. They won’t kill immediately. They’ll put their targets in severe pain before any fatal wounds occur.” He’d look around before whispering to the group. “They are poisoned. Unethical warefare. You must use your regular ammunition.”
Knight didn’t quite believe it at first.”So what this means is that our team organization has been lying to us about this project? Is that what you are saying?”. Knight leaned up against the wall.”I do not know how you were able to figure this out or how you could be 100% assured”.
Quinn pulled out his regular bullet and put it next to the experimental one in his palm, then scratched off what appeared to be metallic paint on the experimental bullet, uncovering a pinkish silver color. “That coloration. The test ammunition isn’t made of brass and lead. This is Demon Realm silver, and it’s tipped with dried shale oil.”
“Jack, I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but I haven’t been able to really find the time to test this.” Quinn would gesture to his stitches. “But shale oil is toxic if it gets in contact with your bloodstream. And what better way to do that then to fire a bullet straight into the chest?”
“The bullet is just a secondary concern. Demon Realm silver is darngerously harmful to Mamono, but I suppose that’s to be expected in this situation. This oil covers all of the bullets, though. You can’t just wash it off and use it.”
Demon:”Matilda. They ARE the trap. Their experimental. We want you to report their reactions to your teams presence. Once they are on route to our overrun base, they will be waiting for them. As long as they don’t reach the main base then we may not have a problem. If they do however make it there, we have a special surprise waiting for them.
Bright Eyes seemed to stay silent, watching the scene unfold. Fighting with poison - it seems anything goes in warfare. That’s the major problem in wars. The only rule anybody followed was that no rules were to be followed.
“I don’t advise using the ammunition, either. If they get their hands on it, they may be able to use it against us.” Bright Eyes adds to the conversation. How, he didn’t know, he was just a medic, after all.
“I won’t be using it at all,” Mason saw Matilda enter, to which he let out a sigh of relief. “Araxes, those experimental bullets the general wants you to use are made of Demon Realm silver and shale oil. It will torture Mamono to death if it’s used.” He was getting tired from all of the talking, seeing how his body still needed rest. “Whatever you do... don’t... don’t use it...”
“Then it’s settled”. Knight stood up and headed out. “We have a job to do. Anders, Make sure Quinn is suitable for the mission. Doc:”find the research team and show them what Quinn has discovered. The rest of you head to the heli deck”.
“Damn, I thought this mission would be clean. Now I don’t know.” Bright Eyes mumbles to himself while starting to make his way to the Heli Deck, checking himself for all the tools he’d need. Everything checked out.
Of course, he didn’t want to put his tools to use - because that would mean somebody would be injured, and he didn’t want that, but it was better safe than sorry.
“We will use our standard ammunition until the research team makes adjustments to the experimental one. So we’ll need our normal weapons to. We still have 30 minutes left. Grab your weapons and let’s prepare for takeoff”.
Bright Eyes nodded, leaving to get his handgun. The more he thought about the mission, the more he doubted it. Bullets barely affected that last mamono... If every encounter would be like that, this wasn’t going to be good.
“Y’know, I’ve been thinking about it, and I’ve just been wondering if the pay for this job is even worth the trouble. That first training mission was supposed to be all simulated, but a member of Blacklust just shows up out of nowhere and catches us off guard? For a mercenary-security company, you’d think Warface would have tighter security within themselves, right?”
“I suppose... I just don’t see the point. Saving a life just for that person to potentially kill several more...” Mason said this while looking at his stitches. At least Blacklust doesn’t take lives... He thought.
“Blackwood was a company that thrived off of the miss fortune of those in low economic parts of the world. they not only had financial and economic power. But military power as well. Technological advancement, arms manufacturing, And an enormous greed for money. Give that to whoever runs it now, make a few adjustments here and there. And you have a company of seeking a similar goal but with a different approach. World domination”.
Pilot:”Alright guys were here! Get ready to hit the ground”.
The engine roared through the quiet forest and began its advance. Pushing a fallen tree out of the way.
Op:”Alright team your mission has begun. You may have already heard but I’ll give the debriefing once more. Blacklust scientist have been developing new cybernetic enhanced soldiers. Out intel tells us they’ve lost control. Your vehicle is armed with a highly charged EMP disrupter to fry their circuitry mainframe. We need to make sure that it gets into the heart of their facility and shut down the entire system in this continent”.
The sounds of roaring and growling came from further along the trail.
“Driver. Hit the lights”. From the brightly lit road forward. Came What looked to be a slightly damaged, beast-like Automaton, staggered forward. Dragging her foot behind.
“In this condition, five minutes tops. If there’s more enemy contact, you’ll have to cover me while I set the charges.” Quinn quickly shuffled over to the car, unlatching claymore charges onto the abandoned vehicle.
