OC RP Character:

Name: Sir Benthan of Northpoint, Ben to his friends

Titles: Knight-Commander of the Order of The Shield (retired), Duke of Northpoint.

Species: Human

Gender: Male

Age: 129 (looks 50)

Height: 6'4"

Weight: 200lbs

Appearance: Ben is a tall human man, well muscled but not hugely so. He looks to be in his fifties, with a weather worn face, grey hair that is silvery white at the temples and the calluses of a warrior on his hands. He bears no obvious scars, and has a tattoo of an opened eye in the center of his forehead, drawn in black ink. He looks more grandfatherly than dangerous, yet there is something about him that makes those with guilty consciences nervous. When he chooses to, he radiates command presence like a veteran General.

Likes: beautiful women, friendly brawls, grandchildren, quiet fishing holes.

Dislikes: evil, injustice, dishonorable people, nagging wives.

Armor: a battered old suit of studded leather armor, invisible helmet, bracers, greaves.

Weapons: collapsible spear, dimensional whip, boot knife, shield bracelet.

Items: everfull canteen, everfull flask, everfull ration belt, flute.

History: 100 Years before Ben's birth, a usurper deposed the then-king of his homeland, and immediately set about exterminating all possible heirs of the old king. Though the usurper and later, his sons, tried for many years, they never found any trace of the youngest princess.

Ben's family have been fishermen in the extremely remote region of his homeland called Northpoint for over 500 years. No record remains of where the family came from before that, nor does the family remember. Aside from his great-grandmother who arrived mysteriously one stormy night 100 years before he was born, all of his ancestors came from clans local to the region intermarrying.

Northpoint was a relatively poor region when he was born, so poor that no nobleman held the lands, and aside from the odd royal tax collector, most residents of the area never paid much attention to whether they were part of a kingdom or not.

Ben was born in a fishing village, and grew up mostly ordinary. It wasn't until an itinerant priest wuite literally bumped into him in the village square that anyone realized there was anything unusual about young Ben. The priest, on the other hand, took one look at Ben and knew otherwise, receiving a divinely-sent vision of the future on the spot. The priest, having Seen what could be, did not give the villagers a moment's peace until Ben was on his way to the Great Temple, in the capital.

Upon arrival, Ben found his progress through the Temple rather amusing. Very self-important officials would bustle up to demand to know what a grubby peasant boy was doing dirtying their carpets, go pale, and then suddenly stop objecting, passing Ben on to their superiors. Finally reaching the last place the buck stopped short of Heaven, Ben found himself having tea with the Voice of the Gods himself.

The Voice, the highest ranked priest in the kingdom, sworn equally to all of the gods rather than a single god, explained to Ben that he apparently had the greatest potential as a holy knight that anyone had seen in a thousand years, and would he mind terribly if they taught him how to be one? Ben couldn't see what the Voice saw, the usually grim faced God of Justice looming in the room behind Ben, showing two thumbs up and grinning. The happy dance with paper fans when Ben accepted was also alarmingly out of character.

Ben's reason for acceptance was thepat it beat cleaning fish for a living. He was quickly sent to the Royal Academy. As a Cadet, Ben drove his teachers half crazed. He always came up with a solution to a problem that while functional and technically correct, was nowhere near what they wanted from him. He never outgrew it. While he was trained to be a superb warrior, what he truly excelled at was diplomacy.

A typical paladin leaves a trail of shattered bodies of the wicked in his path. Ben, on the other hand, left peace and tranquility in his wake. Never the first to draw a weapon, always willing to find an alternative path, willing to talk to what he saw as people where others saw only demons, Ben made a career of diplomacy, often in the middle of a battlefield. He did leave his share of broken enemies, since even the best diplomat cannot force people to listen, but he did his best to ensure there were as few as possible,

He spent most of his life as a wandering adventurer, encountering all manner of strange things, some of which account for his relatively youthful appearance. Towards the end of his career, he returned to his homeland to defend it against an invasion from a nearby nation, a much larger empire. By the time the war was finished, the kingdom had conquered the empire, Ben had made it, through battlefield attrition to lead his knightly order, and had married the only surviving child of the current king, thereby returning the line of old kings to the throne And preventing a potential civil war. Ben's order swore oaths to Justice, Honor and not-quite-Poverty but not Chastity or Celibacy.

The marriage was never about love, and when Ben's wife finally kicked the bucket (his words) he abdicated in favor of his son and went walkabout. Before he left, his son created a Duchy for Ben out of the Northpoint region, more for appearances than any income it would generate In hopes of enticing Ben to remain.

It didn't suffice, though Ben did promise to return one day. Since then, he has been walking the planes, looking for adventures and righteous causes. The current world he finds himself in has plenty of both, and a large number of very beautiful women around who are enticingly eager. The perfect spot to settle down for a while, perhaps get some fishing done.

Abilities:

-- Spirit Energy: While Ben produces the normal thickness and quantity of semen typical of a human man, his spirit energy production is more like a high-end Incubus. This makes him extremely resistant to Demonic corruption and allows him to use simple spells. Most of Ben's spells deal with purifying corruption (including diseases and poisons) and healing wounds. So long as the brain survives, he can revive the very recently dead, but that tires him out like nothing else. Offensively, he can launch arrows of magical energy, which are incapable of causing permanent injuries or death to most targets but can immobilize, stun, disarm and wound -- the exception being evil targets, defined as anyone who murders or tortures for personal gain or pleasure (the real thing, not BDSM games). His offensive spells are useless against mamono, since they are made of what mamono eat. Against inanimate targets, he can blast holes in brick walls, shatter swords and make objects glow as if they were bright lanterns.

-- Attributes: Ben is at the top of the human curve in physical and mental attributes -- originally he was an AD&D character and I rolled straight 18s for him, in front of the DM using the DM's own dice. This gives him the general physical characteristics of an Olympic athlete, the charisma of a great statesman and genius level intelligence (which I can't properly simulate since I am not as smart, heh). He's about as strong as a human can get, but nowhere near as strong as the typical monster.

-- Divine Blessing: Where Ben comes from, paladins are protected from disease and corruption (physical or mental) by a powerful divine blessing. They have stronger resistances against most other sources -- magic, poison, etc -- but are not immune to them. However, he's not in his home plane and his God is far away. Combined with the local rules about Demonic Mana corruption, where he'd be immune to such things back home, he's not immune in the MGE universe. He's a lot more resistant than any normal human though, even most Heroes.

-- Adamantine Will: Ben is a seasoned veteran at throwing off outside influences even without the blessing of his God. His order forms the court system and judges of his homeland, and they make damned sure nobody can mentally influence a judge If they can help it. Ben won't even notice low-end charm spells, can consciously resist mid-range charms and can resist beings such as Lilim for a lot longer than he should be able to. Once out of the caster's presence, successful charms wear down and break alarmingly rapidly. Ben knows his own mind and knows when something does not belong.
