Silver's journey

Part 1: That which is more precious than Silver.

Silver sleeps soundly in his bed  it's his 14th birthday and he plans to sleep in, a no work holiday if there ever where one, his best friend and the woman who'd brought him up since childhood, a gnome named Shaula, had other plans for him. She crept up next him and poked him in the side attempting to wake him.

"Hey sleepy, time to wake up." she whispered softly in his ear, Silver rolled over on his side ignoring her, she crawls up next to him and hugs him, still whispering in his ear. "Hey, did you hear me? Its morning now.", Silver grumbled and scooted away from her still very much asleep but she placed he hand on his shoulder speaking a bit louder "Silver dear, wake up, it's your birthday!", Silver stirred a bit and turned to face her obviously annoyed with her sudden behavior.

"Yeah i know." he grumbled, "So could you leave me alone? Go make me breakfast or something.” Silver curled up moving Shaula's hands away; she was starting to get impatient.

"But i already made breakfast." She replied temptingly placing her breast on Silver's head, and letting her hair fall into his face. "And there's plenty for you to stuff your face.” Silver continued to ignore Shaula simply waving her away as he curled up even more. The gnome had become fed up at this point; she flipped Silver over and held him in place while sitting on top of him

He yelled angrily, "Shaula! What the he-"

"Listen here you!" She snapped cut him off, "Your friggin’ 14 years old now, and puberty or not it's high time we made a covenant!” she began to remove Silver's shirt as he asked questions, ignoring each one he asked.

"Hey what are you doing?!, What's a covenant?!, And why today of all days!?"

After removing his shirt Shaula Answered his last question while starting on his pants. "Why? Because I've been waiting patiently for this day since you were born, that's why! Honestly i dropped so many hints after your 13th it was ridiculous!  There was a point were i actually thought you might have been gay!

Silver wrestled against her for control of his pants. "Well of course I'm not gay! But shouldn't we wait till I'm at least 18 or so?" The thought of waiting four more years pushed Shaula to the edge; she ripped off his pants and under garments, and pounced!

Silver continued to resist until about five minutes in.

A smiling and content Shaula lay next to a dazed and exhausted Silver, who having been attacked and taken advantage of by the very person who to him was like a big sister felt he needed time to clear his head. Standing to dress himself Silver threw away his first pair of brown work pants, and acquired a new pair from his belongings, along with a white shirt and some sandals, he then started to walk towards the exit. Shaula looked towards him. "Hey! Where are you going?" Shaula called after him, Silver stopped and turned around yawning, still looking quite tired.

"Going for a walk." he replied slightly agitated "Why? Can i not go out on my birthday?". Shaula shook her head a soft smile on her lips and gave Silver the same warm, apologetic look she always did when he got upset.

"No you go." She sighed "I'll have breakfast ready by the time you get back." She then rose and made her way to their kitchen. Silver yawned once more and left the cave that was their home, stepped out into crisp morning air, and then began his walk towards the village thinking about what just happened between him and Shaula. Silver had been raised by Shaula after his parents were kidnapped and killed by the Order; she always seemed a bit odd growing up with her but today she was acting even stranger than usual. It wasn't like Silver had never thought of Shaula that way before though. After all they lived under the same roof for so long and slept in the same room mere feet from each other. The many thoughts swimming through his head gnawed at him until his head hurt.

"Arrghh! Why today of all days, and what the hell is a covenant?!" he kept pondering this as he continued to walk through the village every once in a while being stopped by a familiar face to congratulate him a mother, or father, sons, and daughters he knew, blacksmiths, and even some of the shop keeps they're constant congratulations keeping him distracted and almost relaxed. After leaving the attention of a group of fisherman Silver was stopped by Fujishiro Nakamura, the village chief and wedded husband of Himiko the Ryo of the temple, a beast of a man he towered of Silver smiling much bigger than usual whilst stroking his beard, he congratulating Silver on reaching 14 winters before leading him away.

"Silver my boy!" he barked in his grizzly voice, tucking Silver's head under his arm like a toy. "You know of my wife Himiko don't you?"

"Uh....yes sir" Silver wheezed, trying not to choke, he attempted to free himself with no luck.

"Well She asked me to tell you to visit the temple today said it was important.” The chiefs grip grew tighter as they walked toward the temple, Silver thought that he trying to bring him by force. "Now you watch out there Silver, my wife has a temper that can even put me in my place!"

"Yes..... I’m well aware i...... remember...... last years....... festival." Silver Choked out every word furiously beating Fujishiro's arm to get him to release his vice grip. In Zipangu many villages will hold countless Festivals throughout the year for various reasons, the one to which Silver referred was the festival of rising suns. a few weeks prior to the celebration a group of young men had gone missing, only to reappear that day chased by a horde of oni that they'd escaped when he was about to be crushed by an red oni Himiko saved Silver's life afterwards she caught, and punished both the men and the oni and forcibly married all of them before banishing them to the forest once more, she then resumed the festival as if nothing happened.

"Ah yes i seem to remember that, oh well just don't do anything stupid and you should be just fine!" Fujishiro released Silver, patting him on the back so hard he flew a few feet forward whilst letting out a roar of laughter as he returned to the village, "And you should get out more son we've only walked a few feet and you’re out of breath! Hahaha!”  Catching his breath and preparing himself for the worst Silver traveled to the temple Where Himiko was waiting for him.

She was standing patiently at the entrance for him to arrive, smiling ever so slightly. "Ah Silver" She greeted him, "I've been waiting for you.” Silver flinched as she swung her arm to guide him inside.

"Yeah Shiro told me you wanted to see me, what's up?" he asked cautiously, Himiko giggled at him turning and slithering deeper inside.

"Follow me." she called back, and he did so hesitant but swiftly. Himiko led Silver deeper into the temple, the numerous shirohebi where busy tending to things around the shrine and didn't pay them any mind. Himiko took Silver to a statue that contained the three suns golden spheres that were the villages treasure, Silver bowed formally before continuing. Himiko continued past the statue leading Silver into a clearing with a small waterfall and a pond.

"Umm...where are we?" Silver questioned.

"A sacred spring." she stated simply, Himiko withdrew a small bottle and held it in the pond when it was filled she corked it and handed it to Silver "Here a birthday present" her tone then switched becoming slightly more serious, "Just make sure you drink it when you feel it is absolutely necessary.", Silver looked confused.

"You mean like when it's really hot out?” Himiko laughed so suddenly she startled Silver.

"No Silver, you have made a covenant with Shaula correct?” Silver made a frustrated gesture.

"What is a covenant!?" he demanded having ignored the fact Himiko somehow knew about it, again she laughed.

"Shaula will explain to you." She chuckled.

"Oh man, Shaula!", having forgot about her Silver turned and ran toward the cave barely giving Himiko a chance to say goodbye passing the statue, he rushed past a stunned Fujishiro, and back toward the cave which had three holes that were expelling smoke along the side meaning Shaula was still cooking, he walked inside and made his way to the kitchen to find Shaula back to her usual self still cooking over a fire, the flat stone they used as a table was set with a delicious looking spread. Shaula looked up at him and smiled lightly as if this morning never happened, that relieved Silver for a while as he sat down at the table while he waited. Shaula finished cooking the last dish and sat down at the table eating quietly, occasionally glancing up at Silver. "So...uhh."

"After breakfast." She cut him off immediately and resumed eating. Silver exhausted from this morning’s events began to eat as well. After eating in silence Shaula finally stood up and began moving towards the back of the cave telling Silver to follow, Shaula led him down the corridor that led to their bed chambers before taking a turn down a tunnel that.....wasn't there before.

"Uh....hey Shaula, did you do some expanding this morning?"

"It was necessary.", Silver wanted to ask what this mysterious new expansion of their home was for but felt his question would go unanswered or the answer he received would be vague and cryptic. The long and twisting pathway final exited to a large dome of a room. Except for the stone formations that filled the room it was empty though they were weird none of them looked natural and there was a large track dug around its edge the most notable feature was a large stone pillar with a brilliantly decorated sword at the top, even from this distance Silver could feel it's presence radiating around the room causing him to feel warm and at ease, he stepped past Shaula gazing longingly at it.

"Tha-that sword it's....it's...." Silver was at loss for words, Shaula approached him and hugged him from behind, stroking his hair softly.

"It's ok." She said softly, "This is the first time I've let you see it after all, that sword makes you feel that way Silver, because it was your father's."
