Ants in Your Pants

And I said "I better write shorter stories so I have enough steam for the next day". You know, like a liar.

Life was simple in the town of Carndell. A small population of 5,000 people, they spent their days working small businesses and amenities for themselves and the travelers that occasionally stopped on their way to bigger places. Just be sure that if you’re traveling, steer clear of the Giant Ant colony that had established itself beyond the limits of the town. The town sold artificial scents, useful for blocking out the pheremones that the ants spread at regular times of the year while searching for mates. Some called it extortion, but you were always free to leave before or after the ants were active, in order to avoid crossing paths. But one year, the colony was starved, and they led an assault on their neighbors. Marching closer and closer to Carndell’s border, until one day they marched right through the worn dirt street into the heart of the town. 217 able bodied men and even teenage boys were enticed out of their homes, and into the procession which traveled straight back to the nest. Clark was one of them. Stay. Stay. He thought, crouched in the corner of his home as far away from the doors and windows as he could. He heard a light tapping on the window. He tried to make himself smaller. But suddenly a wave of scent washed over him and he found himself standing and walking to the door. Barely able to control himself, he walked outside and fell in with the crowd of insect women. They left the town, climbing a hill until they reached a large pit in the ground. The crowd marched down into the pit, entering a dark tunnel that stretched far underground. The outside world vanished and soon Clark struggled to see in front of his face. Nothing but the faint outline of a figure in front of him, and the sound of rhythmic footsteps.

After head-spinning twists and turns, at one point feeling like he’d been walking upside down, Clark saw a dim light ahead of him. He stepped out into a massive chamber, ants filing in behind him. He was pushed ahead, and found himself in the center with numerous other men. As he started to come to his senses and wonder what they were all doing, he spotted 1 man near the edge of the crowd pulled away by one of the ants. Other ants followed suit, and as he tried to step closer to the center he felt a pair of arms wrap around his waist. “Hey what-!” He was hoisted into the air and sat on the back of one of the ants, who scurried into one of the tunnels and out into a much smaller, private chamber. She dumped him on the ground and tossed the shovel in her hand to the ground. Then she stepped forward as if to climb on top of him.

“Hi therrrreee. Her eyes were heavy and her body was glistening with sweat. “My name’s Aina. And what can I call you, handsome?”

“You can call me, uh” he gaped at her as she loomed over him, antenna twitching. “Clark”.

“Clark?!” I’m so happy to meet you!” She dropped down and pulled him into a hug. “I hope you don’t mind, but our colony reeaaalllly needed more men. Not all of us wanted to take advantage of your town when you’ve been such good neighbors, but we didn’t have much choice. But I’ll take good care of you”. She put her face close to his and pecked him on the lips. Clark’s head was spinning with the scent coming off her body, she  was starting to look less like a monstrous kidnapper and more like a very pretty lady.

“Aina what, what do you plan to do?”

“I’m so glad you asked!” Her cloth-like top began to disappear, her gloves receding and soon she was completely naked, sitting in his lap, Clark couldn’t take it anymore. As he shifted to try to pull his pants down, the insectoid body stuck out behind her, six legs sticking out from the side. But if Clark had ever had an issue with half-insect women, it was gone. He kissed her back, and they connected fiercely. Clark lost track of time, joined with his wife, until they fell asleep.

Clark woke up. He snapped to attention, noting that he was still naked and laying on a pile of leaves and sticks made into the form of a bed. He looked around. Aina was gone. He went over to the pile of clothes, and put them on, glad they were still intact.

“What now?” He spoke aloud. He walked to the entrance of the tunnel, staring out into the darkness. He stepped forward, hands on the wall, inching his way into the tunnel, but as he looked behind him, the dim lamp light growing fainter, he lost his nerve and hurried back into the small chamber. Couldn’t bear the thought of being lost. So he sat. paced back and forth. Started to count. Lost track at 4,187. When Clark was fearing that nothing was going to change, and he had been trapped in some sort of purgatory, he caught a whiff of a familiar scent. Aina stepped into the chamber. He leapt at her and she dropped her shovel in surprise. “Aina! Oh my god I’m so glad to see you. I was going to lose my mind!” He kissed her passionately, trying to imprint the feeling of her body into his memory.

“Mmm, well I’m glad to see you, honey. Shall we enjoy each other’s company?” They made love like the previous night, but this time, Clark caught himself before falling asleep.

“Aina! Please don’t leave me tomorrow!”

“Huh? I’d love to spend more time with you honey, but I have to work. Find more food, dig tunnels, there’s still members of the colony who are alone”.

“But what about me?”

“Of course you have a job. You make me happy when I come home.”

“But I don’t know what I’m supposed to do while you’re gone. Isn’t there something I could do to help while I’m by myself?” Aina pondered.

“Why don’t you focus on learning how to navigate the tunnels?” Clark paled.

“What? I tried to walk down the tunnel just outside your, ah, room? I couldn’t tell my left from right”.

“Well, it will give you something to work on. That tunnel connects closely to many other chambers where my fellow workers live, so if you can reach one of them, you’ll find other men who might have the same problem”.

The next morning, Clark found himself alone. When he stood up to munch on the mixture of nuts and berries his wife had left him, he saw there was a diagram drawn on the floor.

“Bless her heart”. He said to himself. The drawing showed a small circle marked “you”. A line extended in the direction of the tunnel, and next to it was written “24 paces”. It then spit into a handful of other tunnels, which all stretched back to other circles labeled “chamber”. An arrow extended from his own tunnel, pointing to the main chamber, labeled “240 paces”. Clearly this was only a small piece of the colony.

For days, Clark spent his hours walking out into the tunnel, further and further each time, counting his paces. He grew more courageous, always ending in Aina’s arms as she returned from work. Finally, Clark gained the courage to walk all 24 paces into the tunnel. Hand on the wall, the entrance to his chamber had all but disappeared. And as he came to where he was sure the split should be, it continued. “No, no, no, that’s wrong”, He snarled. “This has to be the split”. He returned to his own chamber and stared at the map. His eyes grew large with shock. “Aina walks faster than me!” He remembered the way she had carried him through the tunnel like it was nothing. She was larger and had more legs. She must have used her own measurements! “Great. Now I have to figure out how long it takes me.” Clark marched back into the tunnel, this time counting each step, determined to go until he’d found the end. “57, 58, 59, 60, 61”. 61 paces and his hand found the end of the wall. He squinted, but couldn’t see anything. He reached around the edge of the left wall, and began to walk down the tunnel. He reached out with his right, finding the right wall after 3 paces to the right. “If this is a new tunnel, I should come back this way and turn to the right to reach my own.” He walked forward, counting paces, until he reached 60. He stepped into the light of a chamber to see another man hunched on the ground. “Hello?” Clark said softly. The man jumped around and bellowed in fright. His scream muffled by the dirt walls, he stared at Clark with a maniacal look in his eyes. His beard was thick with black hair, and he started into Clark’s eyes with a look of fear. Finally he spoke.

“Who are you? How did you find your way here? What have you done with Anna?” Clark couldn’t help but snicker. The man glowered.
“I’m sorry to scare you. My name’s Clark. I assure you I haven’t done anything with your wife. She’s probably out at work like mine. I’m married to Aina, which is what I found funny. But she gave me a map of some of these tunnels, which is why I was able to find you.” The man looked in wonder, then let out a tired chuckle.

“I wonder if all their names start with an ‘A’. I”m Jerry. Feel free to sit down.” They shook hands, and Jerry’s story spilled out before he could stop himself.

“You left your wife and daughter?” Jerry looked enraged.

“I didn’t want to leave them! I tried to lock myself inside but the scent got to me and before I knew it I was here. Anna offered to bring them here but I don’t know, they’ll both be monsterized in a few weeks. Who knows if Claire wants to even see me anymore. And Anna has been so kind. I couldn’t leave her if I wanted to”. Clark patted him on the shoulder.

“You’ve been through a lot. But there’s nothing to be ashamed about getting caught up with the colony. They’re very persuasive. Why don’t I give you my map? That way we can reach out to even more fellows down here?”

“Anything to occupy my mind”. So Clark carefully drew out his map, marking his own chamber. They sat there, looking over the paths. After some time, Clark stood up.

“Think I’d better return home. Iiiii I have a feeling the missus will be back soon.”

“I can’t thank you enough!” Next time I’ll visit you”.

“Take your time. I’m sure any of the ladies could find you if you were lost, but you wouldn’t want to have to wait in the darkness.” They waved, and Clark exited into the tunnel, counting his paces, taking a right at the split and returning to his own chamber. Aina came right in behind him.

“Clark! I thought I saw you. Did you make it far into the tunnels?”

“I made it all the way to one of the other fellow’s chambers. Name’s Jerry”.

“Well I’d love to hear about it later…”. She embraced him from behind, her chest pressing into his back as she kissed his neck.

---

“Oh dear!” I know none of us meant to break up a family”. Aina was lying on the bed, holding Clark as her legs clamped firmly around his own.

“Yeah, it’s not been easy for him. But I’m going to help him with the map, and we’re going to reach out to more husbands. I think there’s a lot of things we might be able to accomplish together.

As Clark and Jerry worked together on the exploration of their neighboring tunnels, they slowly connected with 13 other men, all in various levels of elation when they found companions to talk to. Clark began organizing meetings, to help the others learn their area of the colony, and to figure out how they could improve their situation. One morning, Clark began to leave his chamber when he heard a sound coming from far away. Footsteps? Aina never came back. He stepped back, worried of a potential invader. Out stepped another Giant Ant. Or so he thought. But her top was more revealing. Strands of silk stuck to her shovel, and as he looked at her gloves, he could see a spider web design that looked unlike Aina’s own gloves.

“Hi there darling. How would you like to spend some time with me?”

“I’m sorry I’m quite busy. Who are you? Aren’t you going with the others?”

“My name’s Alyssa, and I don’t have any other obligation than to spending time with you”. And she pounced on him, seizing his hips and removing his clothes. They spent all day, Clark never tiring, barely having enough time to feel guilty as her scent overpowered the rational parts of his brain. Finally, she relented, gave him a kiss, and left. Clark stood up, dazed, and pulled on his clothes, just as some of his friends stepped into the chamber.

“Clark? Where have you been? Weren’t we going to talk about trying to branch out to the other regions of the colony?” James asked.

“I’m ah...really sorry guys. I must have fallen back asleep. I’ll be there tomorrow. The men agreed, and left, and soon Aina returned, another round of pleasure for Clark. But he didn’t manage to meet with his fellows, because the next day, Aina had barely left when Alyssa returned. She slunk into the chamber, laying down on top of Clark and proceeded to have her way with him. Clark couldn’t even complain. Day in and day out, Aina left for work and Alyssa took her place, barely giving Clark a chance to stand up. Alyssa lounged on the bed with him, holding his attention with a ferocity that matched Aina on her hardest days digging new tunnels. She smothered him in kisses whenever he tried to protest. Until one day, they were both snoozing, when a chorus of voices startled them awake.

“CLARK YOU SHIFTLESS BASTARD! IT’S BEEN A WHOLE WEEK SINCE WE LAST SAW YOU. AND HERE YOU ARE IN BED WITH ANOTHER WOMAN? PUT ON SOME CLOTHES AND PREPARE TO EXPLAIN YOURSELF OR I SWEAR I’LL TELL YOUR WIFE WHAT YOU’VE BEEN DOING”. Clark opened his eyes, looking at Jerry and the others, as Alyssa stirred in his arms.

“Get out of my room! And leave me and my husband alone! How did you get by the silk wall I left anyway?” She stood up, her chitinous covering returning to its place, and she bore down on the group of men, who tried to escape into the corridor.

“And do you know that fellow’s already married?” James spoke up, halting her advance.

“Oh, to that workaholic ant that leaves him alone all day? What kind of wife would ever want to leave her husband’s side? I’ll be a far better partner for him.”

“You won’t get away with this! You think we’re all going to keep quiet?” Alyssa grinned.

“You’ll have to find him!” She snatched up Clark and scurried out of the chamber. James looked out into the darkness.

“Well, we’re going to have a very angry wife on our hands. I think we’d better wait for her together”. They smelled Aina before seeing her. As she stepped into the chamber, sweaty as usual, she stopped at the group of men standing there, all slightly affected by her scent but not as much as that of their own wives. Soon the other women came looking for their husbands, and the chamber became very crowded as they all packed in from the tunnel.

“Where is Clark?”
“Ma’am, we’re very sorry. Clark was taken by another ant. She called him her husband. She looked just like the rest of you, except she made sticky silk to block the entrance”. Aina shook with rage, and after murmuring with the rest of the ants, they rushed out of the tunnel. It wasn’t long before word broke out, many of the hardworking women of the colony not too happy at being interrupted. Soon, Alyssa was located, still holding onto Clark, hiding in an unfinished tunnel.

“YOU! Give me back my husband! I didn’t work all day just for him to be taken by a lazy thief!”

“Hmf. Well it’s too bad you weren’t spending more time with him. Leaving poor Clark all by himself?” Alyssa snuggled into Clark’s side, who was trying desperately not to look at Aina.

“I can’t just spend all day in the nest! We need to find food, expand the nest! And Clark’s been doing plenty of work himself, until you came along!”

A presence fell upon the three of them. The rest of the ants had thought better to return to their homes, but a fourth figure stepped into sight. Alyssa and Aina went quiet. Clark tried to see who was taking their attention.

“Colony members 245 and 176, and husband 245. What is the meaning of all this commotion? I have heard reports of a thief in the colony, and it is disturbing many of the workers. Explain yourselves at once!” Alyssa tried to sneak away. “176! You won’t get far, I have guards at the end of the tunnel. Come with me to my chamber, all of you.” Aina picked Clark up and followed the woman out of the tunnel. They arrived in another chamber, this one much larger than the rest. Clark received some clothes, and after he got a good look at the speaker, he saw that she was very different from the rest. She was dressed in golden garbs, a crown adorning her head. She held a regal presence, and the rest of the ants, along with Clark’s companions, gave her their full attention.

“Your majesty. I apologize for disrupting everyone. But this woman took my husband. His friends told me she’s been in our room while I’m gone, for over a week now.”

“Your Majesty, I don’t see why we should be so concerned about one little intruder.” One of the other ants spoke up.

“One intruder! We can’t just let this layabout get away with living here while benefiting from our work!” Aina was furious. The queen motioned for Aina to be quiet.

“043, please have a little compassion for 245’s problem. 176 is an Ant Arachne, a spider type monster who mimics as other giant ants to blend in with a colony. They take advantage of a man living in the colony. We cannot allow her to continue, when she is taking our food without contributing to its collection. Especially since she could have chosen any of your husbands.”

“Your majesty! I think she should be put to work gathering food. Make up for her theft, and spend time away from my husband so he can complete his own work.” The queen smiled.

“Yes, I’ve heard of the work of husband 245 and his companions. Are you willing to supervise 176? You can lead an ant to food but you can’t make her collect it”.

“Absolutely!”

---

“I don’t wanna collect food. I wanna lay in bed”, Alyssa whined.

“I know you do. But you’re not getting away with it that easily. You’ve been taking advantage of Clark for too long. Now you’ll repay your debt.”

“And what if I refuse?” Alyssa sat down on the ground and crossed her arms in a pout.

“Then I’ll pick you up and carry you so far away from the colony that you’ll never find your way back”. Aina scooped up the reluctant laborer and started to walk.

“No wait, please! I don’t want to be separated from Clark.” She tried to escape from Aina’s grip.

“Then get to work!”

---

“And that’s our proposal, your Majesty. We’d like to reach out to the other men in the colony, teach them to navigate, and expand our own navigation skills in the process. We’ve been talking about the possibility of a lighting system in the tunnels, but we’d need a lot of materials.”

“Husband 245, I applaud your efforts to organize your fellow men. I am impressed with your capability in navigating even your own region of the colony. Darling, are you paying attention? You could learn a lot from them”. The queen’s own husband was sitting on her throne, with her on top.

“I do, sweetheart. Fellas, you’ve done a mighty good job. Haven’t had much time to reach out myself, a lot of duties for a queen to carry out.” Some of the men snickered.

“I will delegate the collection of materials to workers next spring. But it will have to wait. There’s not much time before winter, and we’ll have to dedicate all our time to food collection”.

---

“I’m exhausted!” Alyssa staggered back through the tunnels, following Aina. She had never worked harder in her life. And these ants did it every day? At last they reached their chamber, where Clark was waiting. “Darling!” She rushed for Clark, but Aina stopped her.

“Share. You can’t have him all to yourself.” They spent an extra long night, and when they were finished, Clark lay down, cuddling 2 lovely ant ladies.

“That was amazing. And to think, the queen approved our plans to reach out with the rest of the colony. We just need to wait until next spring”.

“That’s wonderful! I’m so proud of you, Clark”. Aina kissed him.

“So Alyssa, how was your first day of work?”

“UUUuuggghhhhhhh”. She groaned.

“I know it may be tiring. It’s still more work than I’ve had to do since I got here. But hey, didn’t it make tonight feel so much better? After a hard day of work?” Alyssa thought for a moment.

“Maybe” She mumbled. “I want to go again.”

---

The snow was melting, and the first buds were sprouting on the trees. The colony had weathered the winter, and now Clark and a few of his companions were moving out of the nest, prepared to start a new colony.

“Jerry, are you sure you don’t want to come with us?”

“It’s been a pleasure to meet you all. But I have to see my family. I’ve spent too much time away from them, and now that the colony has continued to expand into Carndell, I reckon it might be easier to find them. But I wish you all the best of luck”. He shook Clark’s hand, and they parted.

“I think Zipangu is going to be the best place to establish our colony. It will require some travel, but it has a good relationship with monsters. It attracts a lot of travelers, so it will be easier to learn about the locations of other colonies, so we can find ways to help other men deal with their new life”.

---

A small troop of Giant Ants stepped onto the dock with their husbands after a long voyage. They had reached a small pot town. But they would need much more land for their colony. So they advanced inward, until they arrived after weeks of travel, in a small village. The ground was level and excellent for digging. Months later, it turned into a small den. Soon it grew larger, and a queen was chosen. It was not Aina, much to Alyssa’s disappointment. More workers were born, and after surviving the first winter, the colony grew to respectable size. But they weren’t satisfied. The workers dug deeper, further, and ever larger. It engulfed the village, Many years later, the Zipangu Giant Ant colony would be known throughout the continent, a hub of expertise for giant ants. As Clark and his crew began to plan how to reach out to other colonies, they attracted more and more attention, as both monsters and humans sought to move there to find work, a partner, and build a life from the supercolony that stretched far under the ground. But Clark still felt the same as always, waking up every day to his 2 beautiful wives.

There's no stories about giant ants, or their arachne mimics, as far as I'm aware of. I think there's a lot unsaid about the lives of giant ants' husbands, living in a nest all day by themselves. I think some of the comments from KC about how ants wouldn't care about ant arachnes sneaking into their hive make no sense. There's plenty more one could do with a narrative about this monster. For me personally, I tend to interpret any given monster a single way, and it's sometimes difficult to think of a different perspective for that monster. So I'm not sure if I have other ideas for this species. But I'd love to see if someone else does.
