Cerberus: “On The Day Of Fellowship”

The Day Of Fellowship. The Day Of Saints. A joyous day, a festive day. A beloved day.

Cerberus stomps down a street, heading toward the large dark castle ahead of him. His black steel heeled/toed boots click and clack upon the cobblestones beneath. His dark hood shadows his face, his eyes burn like coals and his snarl bares a mouth full of canine like teeth.

People avoid him like a plague as he walks toward the castle. What he did beyond the walls of the city is his and Aleric’s alone to know. Yet, so close to this holiday, Cerberus is unfazed by the generous nature of some around him

He walks past folks offering him food. He growls and marches past folks wishing him goodwill. He stomps past children enjoying the snow on the ground as they toss it back and forth.

He was an unpleasant sight, a fearful sight. A dog to some. A bitter, old soul to others. A cursed creature used by an overlord with goals.

Cerberus marched toward the castle gates, and they opened as his eyes glowed brighter. His power was apparent as the castle seemed to move at his whim.  Though Aleric was the Overlord. As he entered the keep, the castle was an energetic place of people celebrating the occasion. Cerberus ignores all and stomps through every room toward Aleric, who sits in his throne.

“The mission is complete, my lord.” Cerberus growls.

“Very good my pet, now vanish, you make my guests nervous.” Aleric scoffs.

Cerberus stands and leaves the room, growling and grumbling like a beast who’s been clenched by a leash. He travels down a long flight of stairs, a dark corridor unlike that of a mortal’s worst nightmare. Cerberus reaches the bottom and strides toward a stone throne only he could see. Souls writhed and spun in the background, their images and cries were only his to see.

He sat with a thud. An exhausted thud. Beneath the hood, Cerberus lost his sneer and dominating stare.

He let out a long sigh. His breath showed on the cold frigid air that enveloped his portion of the castle. The deep, dark corners. Cerberus liked the cold. He had spent years saturated by it, death had no warmth....
