Hello Fans, Ore-samma here!

Another request from this post = One-shot requests (6) SPECIAL EDITION | Fandom

A Giant Ant tries to encourage her Ant Arachne buddy to do work. After a few failed attempts, the arachne finally takes up a interest in making cloth.

I really liked how this turned out! Very good premise!

I hope you like it!

“Common! Common! Sister, you can’t just laze about all day!”

I rolled over and stretched and yawned. “Miley, you know how this’ll end. I can’t help it! And besides, I’m not as strong as you!”

“Hmpf! I still love you, Joanne! But you really should do something here to help out! An honest day’s work will make you feel so much better!”

I watched as Miley marched off with the others and hid under the covers until I heard the silence of the nearly-empty ant nest. I quietly reemerged and snuck to the food larders and got a large basket of the berry harvest they got.

“Mmmm, blueberries and raspberries!” I squealed once back in the small space Miley and I dug out….well, that Miley dug out when she found me hiding in the food room.

Even now, I still don’t know why she doesn’t report me to her commander….but I suppose my presence and the stories I tell her have something to do with it.

.

“Hmmm, so good!” I hummed as I placed a good amount away for Joanne and squeezed the rest into a pitcher and mixed it with water for a nice cold beverage when she got back.

I laid back on my bed and sighed, feeling the world's worries drift away with my consciousness.

.

I woke, feeling a little excited as I hid under the covers and waited for Joanne to get back to share the wonderful drink.

Hey! Did anyone see Miley?

I gasped, some of the workers were talking about my friend!

No! She was with the survey group in the ravine! Hey Tess! Was Miley at headcount?

No? I thought she was with you?

Quick! Send a nest-wide alert! We need to send a rescue! We’re missing a sister! She might have fallen into the ravine!

I felt my heart sink, and the sweet berry water taste turn to ash in my mouth. No! This must not be possible!

I looked about and quickly grabbed Miley’s harness, shovel and hard hat and trooped out.

“I want to volunteer to go!” I shouted.

“Hey! New face!” One of the workers said, looking at me. “What’s your name?”

“Joanne.” I said, feeling my heart tremble and thunder with guilt over Miley, and fear over being discovered.

“Joanne! You go with the first group who saw where Miley was last, we’ll bring up the rear!”

I rushed out into the night, hoping I would be able to keep up with their frenzied marching pace.

“Okay troop! We’re here!” The team leader called out.

I panted, just barely able to keep myself from passing out. I had no idea Miley would go so far for work! I felt so weak and tired and-

“Everyone sound off! Head count!”

The workers cried out with their names with me bringing up the rear.

“Okay! Everyone file off in groups of three! Miley was last here, maybe she slipped into the ravine! Fan out!”

I felt my arm tugged by two other workers and quickly followed them.

.

“There! There! I can smell her!” One of my team called out.

I peeked over the ravine and my heart fell. “I see her!” I cried out. “She fell down!” I looked at the other two with me. “Does anyone have rope?”

They looked at me with wide, frantic eyes and shook their heads.

I leaned over. “Miley! Miley! Can you hear me!”

Nothing, she didn’t even stir.

I felt my heart breaking. If I was here, I would have been able to help her! Wait! I can still help her!

.

I looked back at the group that was peering over the edge and noticed that some were starting to dig a hole, intending to tunnel down to her…...it would take to long!

“Take this! All of you! Tie it to the tree! I’m going to get her!” I cried out, handing over my silken thread and jumped over the edge.

I released my silken thread as I eased down.

“Miley! Miley! Please! Are you okay?” I whimpered as I drew close and used my legs to pull her up to me.

Miley barely opened her eyes, a trail of dried blood led from her head and mouth.

I tied her body to mine and started to climb, my arms already wobbling.

.

“Climb! Climb!” The other workers cried out as I struggled.

“I- I can’t...I’m not as strong as you!” I whimpered.

“.....Joanne….I knew you would come for me….” Miley mumbled, “.....I knew you would save me...”

I gritted my teeth and pulled…..pulled…..pulled…..PULLED!

All of a sudden, my arms wouldn’t work….I was only halfway there….I was slipping….slipping!

“HELP ME!” I cried out, looking at the horrified faces of the workers.

They sprung into action and pulled on my thread, and in no time I was there cradling Miley to me, wrapping her oddly bent legs in my silk and making a bandage for her head just as the Queen arrived.

.

“My daughter! Miley!” She cried out and scuttled closer. She waved her hands over her body and sighed. “She will live. She wasn’t hurt too badly. Just a few days of rest and she will mend fine.” She thumbed the silken bandages and looked around. “Who- who put these on her?”

Everyone stepped away and I stepped forward and lowered my head. “I...I did, your highness. "I mumbled, my head downcast.

Oh! My wonderful daughter!” The queen exclaimed, pulling me in and holding  me close. “Thank you, my wonderful daughter for saving Miley! I don’t think I could ever repay you!” She said, sobbing into my shoulder.

I felt a strange elation and a dull warmth spread through my body as we marched back, with me being one of the ones who carried Miley the entire way.

Everyone seemed to wish us a good night, and I stared at the ceiling, feeling my muscles throb and ache.

.

Feels so good, doesn’t it?” Miley whispered in the stillness of the night.

What feels good?” I whispered back.

Miliey smiled at me. “An honest day’s work.”

I smiled back. “Maybe, but I think I have a better idea than just digging endlessly.”

I dusted my hands as I finished restocking the supply of silk towels, work dresses, and safety ropes.

“There! Restocked and plenty more for back up!” I muttered as I munched on a bowl full of apple and watermelon slices.

.

In the last few days, I have been spinning my silk to make so much finery for the workers. They now had things like rugs, curtains, new clothes, safety ropes and harnesses and even the towels they used to wipe their brows were all made by me!

“You’re so wonderful sister!” Annie said with a smile as she closed up the store room and handed me a sweet bun. “Thank you so much! I appreciate it!”

.

But more than that…..there was this sense of family….

“Look it’s Joanne! Joanne! I love your towels! They are so soft!”

“Joanne? Joanne! Hey! Those curtains are amazing! I love them!”

“That’s Joanne? Wow! She’s really pretty!”

.

….a sense of family from every Worker I passed. I no longer had to sneak to the food larder, or hide in bed while everyone went to dig.

I could openly walk among my new found family and see their eyes light up each time they saw me, and call my name with happiness.

I sighed as I entered my little burrow with Miley, and prepared her a nice cold pitcher of water and a clean towel.

.

Joanne came back and excitedly told me of an approaching battalion of Order Soldiers.

“Why are you excited?” I murmured. “The Order hates us!”

Miley shook her head. “Don't you see? Tomorrow we were both going to go on a hunt for a husband to share! They don’t stand a chance against us! They don’t even know we are here!” She drank the pitcher and curled into bed after setting her alarm. “Get some rest Joanne! Tomorrow we are going to have a Husband!”

I smiled at the ceiling as I felt sleep carry me away...life was so good…

“Miley?”

“Yes?”

“You were right, by the way….an honest day’s work is a great feeling, but I’ll bet being in love with a husband will be even better!”

“See? I love you, Joanne! Thank you for everything, and for saving my life!”

….and it was only going to get better.
