A one-shot about a sibling quarrel between an Order Mage and a Dark Mage?
Before I started, I could tell this one was gonna be good!
I hope you like it!

I sighed internally as I opened the purple envelope, already knowing who it was from, what it meant, and all the headache that would come with it.
My dearest daughter Danielle,
There is a space for you in our hearts, and a place for you at our table.
It would do me so much honor if you would come home for the holidays and join your family in fellowship and love!
Ever your loving mother-
Bella Heartfire
I wanted to burn the letter. I wanted to throw it away! I just wanted-
I sighed as I pressed my thumb on my mother’s seal to let her know I would be coming...even though I hated seeing her now, and my younger sister.

.
I looked about as soon as I teleported to the neutral location for this year’s get together.
I exhaled a frozen breath upon the sparkling snow covered landscape featuring a single large triple story log house.
All the windows shone with a cheerly lit amber color, and the trees around were decorated with twinkling multicolored lights and streaming spindles of magic hanging onto so many surfaces that almost made it look like an illusion.
“Stop it!” I hissed, and smacked my cheeks to get rid of the stupid smile on my face.
I took in another deep breath and had to smack my face again upon smelling the delicious roasts and baked sweet breads.
I hesitated at the door, but knocked loudly as I exhaled, preparing for the worst….as usual.
“Sister!” My fool of a younger sister exclaimed as soon as the door opened and brought me in for a hug that I just barely tolerated.
“Sister.” I said in a cold voice, glaring daggers at her. “You….actually, look well.” I said, a soft surprise rippling through my soul.
My sister Holly was actually wearing modest clothing! Her cleavage was hidden, her midriff, and thighs, all covered up with a tasteful purple long sleeved sweater, paired with a milk white full length skirt that wouldn’t be out of place in any Order gathering.
“Thank you!” Holly cheered. “So much has happened since last we saw each other!” She pressed her cheek to mine and kissed the air near my ear. “I’m engaged to be married this spring!” She said, her cheeks flushed and rosy with tears sparking in her eyes.
She squealed, holding onto my hands and jumped up and down a bit and pulled me in the house. “Come! Mother was so happy once she realized you were coming!”
“Is that her? Is she here?” My mother rounded the corner and broke out into a wide smile and cried out. “Danielle! I am so happy!” She cried out and pulled me into a hug that included her tail and wings.
“Mother.” I said with a little more warmth and gave her a pat with one hand and arm.
“I love you so much, my darling child!” My mother said, still holding tight onto me. “It is a joy beyond knowing every time I see your face, know that you are alive, and every time you are safe in my arms I am so full of peace.” She whispered.
I hated it when she said things like that….when she brought me to tears….I silently whispered my spell to help keep my composure. There would be no way I would let her know how….moved I was by her words.
“Thank you, mother.” I said, keeping my dry eyes in hers as she let me go.
“I still see that you still haven’t forgiven me.” She said in a sad, low voice. “But despite that- I will take my blessings where I can get them. Come! You must be hungry!” She said, pulling me into the living room.
“I don’t blame you, mother!” I cried out, not able to stand how she looked at me in the way that let me know her heart was in agony over my coldness.
I looked over my shoulder to Holly. “I blame Holly! She is the one who brought this infestation to our family! To you!”
.
I looked around and noticed that everyone was staring at me.
My father, mother, and now my sister and what must be her fiance’.
“Do you smell that!” My father interrupted and pulled out a large turkey from the dutch oven. “It is finally done!”
The icy atmosphere was broken a little as we all gathered to eat.
I pointedly decided to do my best to not look at my mother’s Succubi features, or the absolute stench of mamono energy my sister expelled, and the tension lessened quite a bit.
I excused myself to the bathroom and when I exited I noticed my sister was waiting for me.
.
“Danielle, please. Can we talk in private?”
“What do you want?” I hissed, narrowing my eyes. “I still haven’t forgiven you for what you did to mother!”
Holly held out a bottle and showed it to me.
“Truthwynd?” I looked up to her and scoffed. “You mean to tell me you mastered potion making? Ha! You were just a novice when I last saw you!”
Holly nodded and took it back. “Danielle, do you remember me telling you why I did what I did to mother?”
I narrowed my eyes. “That old lie again? Mother was dying? That it was the only- what are you-” I sputtered as I watched Holly upended half the bottle and held it out to me, signaling for me to do the same.
“Peh! Fine!” I swallowed the rest of the potion and sneered at her. “What’s that supposed to prove? Just that you’re gonna tell the truth I already know!”
“Danielle, mother was dying! I did what I did to save her!” Holly said in a low, sad voice.
I felt a dumb, soft shock slap my awareness….I was so certain…..so certain that……
“Danielle, if you were faced with the same decision as I. Would you do the same thing to save our mother?”
I tried to not speak, to not-
.
“Yes. I would.”
“Then why do you hate me?”
“I don’t!” I cried out, trying to stop my tears, but so unable due to the Truthwynd….my little sister really outdid herself, her potion was also forcing my body to be truthful...even my tears.
“I don’t hate you! I hate myself! I hate that I couldn’t save mother! I hate that I wasn’t brave enough to do what you did!”
“Really?” Holly whispered, tears also streaming from her eyes. “Danielle! Oh! I love you so much!” She cried out and wrapped her arms around me.
“Sister, mother is alive. I am alive. We both still love you and do not blame you for any of this.” She tilted her face up to mine and smiled. “Why can’t we be a family? Why can’t you just realize that we love you no matter what?”
I wiped my face and choked back as much as I could….which was barely anything at all.
“Because! Is it so bad that it feels like I am betraying everything I knew growing up, and learned with my magic? Do you realize how hard it is to know that it was only me who was wrong all this time?”
“It wasn’t just you who felt that way. I too had to turn my back on our master.” Holly said in a wistful voice. “But there is no shame to turn your back on lies.” Her face became serious. “And make no mistake, the mamono do not want to destroy the world. We just want to live in peace and love. Is that so bad?”
I gasped, hearing it through the truthwynd as well as my sisters voice.
I nodded and kissed my sisters forehead and wiped my eyes, feeling the Truthwynd’s effects taper off.
.
“You're still such a butthead.” I mumbled.
Holly laughed and wiped my face and hers with her handkerchief. “If you still wish to satisfy your honor, you can always go back to the capital. But remember, we love you. We will always love you.” She gestured downstairs where I could hear even more of our family who must have arrived after I did, now in joyous fellowship, eating and being merry.
“But I don’t think that you will ever be happier than here, with us.”
I nodded and wrapped my arm around my sisters shoulders. “I agree. I think when this gathering is done, I will come home with you and mom and dad.”
“Welcome home, my sister. Now and always.” She said as we walked together where our family was waiting.
Where life and love and happiness was always there, just waiting for me to claim it.
.
And at last,
I was home.
