So, here is the last sequel of the Echidna Son story.

I feel that this really rounds it all out well, and I am pleased with how it flows and ends.

In case you missed the other two, here they are

I blinked as I looked at all the preparations for my sister’s wedding. It was going to be so great to see her again! Right along with Kayla, Mary, Diane, and Jenny!

“Mother, Father? Is there anything I can do to help you?” I said looking up at them as they were enchanting several baked goods into a pocket dimension.

My mother looked up and her face lit in a bright warm smile. “Grant! Oh my!” She said and eased off her magic and moved closer to me and pulled me into a warm hug. “Grant, I’m sorry I didn’t see you there! With all this hectic-ness going on, I don’t want you to feel like you are being left out or ignored!”

I nodded and gave her a smile. “I don’t feel left out. This is Helen’s wedding after all, not mine.” I said with a small laugh that my father followed up with his own boisterous guffaw.

“Grant, you just wait until it is your turn to be married. You think you’re mother is pulling out all the stops now, HA! Just you wait!”

I sighed and shrugged, “Seriously, just because I am a boy?” I said, looking at my dad.

“You’re not just any boy!” My mother said, holding up her finger. “You are the only son born of this house, and first ever male born to any mamono!” She looked up at a magical painting I knew all too well.

There I was, wrapped up in a blanket meeting with the Lilim coven, and I was told, later on I met with the Demon Lord herself, and received her blessing.

“Yes, I know. But, I don’t feel all that special! I mean, there have been other sons born to mamono now.”

My mother tsked her tongue and rubbed my shoulders. “Grant, you are my -ahem-” She looked at my father and smiled. “-our- son. You are a part of me, and are more special then you can ever imagine!”

“So, does that mean I can help?” I said with a rueful grin.

Mother laughed and nodded. “Okay!” She gestured to a bowl of molten strawberry flavored melt. “If you can, I would like for you to smear this on Helen’s wedding cake and make it smooth.” She held her hands at the ready. “Do not worry about your reserves of magical power, I will provide you the energy….so just keep your focus and control on what you are doing.”

I nodded and started my gestures.

In no time the cake was smoothed over and was a delicate rosy pink color and smelled heavily of baked strawberries; Helen’s favorite fruit.

“Good job! Good job!” My mother beamed, smiling at me. “Jake, do you see this? He did just as good a job as you can!”

My father nodded. “I see it, Helen.” He also smiled. “But, you’ve a long way to go before you can do this-” He raised his hands to the raspberry syrup and the molten white chocolate and decorated the cake with intricate lines, art, and swirls that made my head spin at the ease and complexity of his craft.

“Hmpf! Show off!” I muttered, then laughed with them.

The sound of the door opening let me know Annabelle returned home from her schooling and, with two silent nods, I took off to see my favorite sister.

“Annabelle!” I cheered, seeing her happy face as I met her in the living room. “Did you have a good day!”

Annabelle nodded and hugged me tight, even picking me up off the floor. “Grant! You are growing so fast!” She said in a happy voice. “Is today the day Eldest gets married?” She mooed.

I shook my head. “Nope! Tomorrow! But she should be here soon! Mom and Dad just finished her cake and Jenny, Mary, and Diane should be here as soon as the current and winds change!”

“Wonderful!” Annabelle exclaimed. “I’ll join you soon! But first, I must clean up.” She padded off to the bathroom and I put her books away in her room.

I exited and was immediately tacked by my three Harpy Sisters.

“Brother!”

“Bro!”

“Brev!”

They all had a wonderful smell of the faraway mountain range they now lived at, and a heady smell of meat from all their hunting and new diet.

“How have you been!”

“Look how much he’s grown!”

“Wow! He looks so much like father!”

“He’s always looked like father, silly!”

“I know, but still!”

We fell to the usual lines of conversation of catching up, they offered again to have me meet the folks with their new flock, but as usual mom intervened-

“How many times must I tell you three! Grant is not about to be carted away to a mountain range, to be taken up as a husband to a Harpy! He is promised to the first born of my Patron!”

“Aww, mom! Common! Everyone wants to meet him!” Diane protested.

“Yeah!” Jenny chimed in, our elder keeps asking to see him!

“Besides, it would be good for our bro to see some of the world!” Mary added.

“Girls!” Mother exclaimed, having her tail wag back and forth instead of slamming to the ground. “Your flock elder is welcome to visit here!” She smiled, and used her tail to bring them all closer and hugged and kissed each one of them in turn. “Just as you are! I missed you so much! Thank you for coming!”

I smiled seeing mom being more mellow as the house emptied out. For the longest time I thought she was overwhelmed, but ever since I came along, things changed so quickly I was told.

Helen took on so much responsibility, Kayla helped out even  more than before, the triplets stopped their mischief almost over night.

“Sisters!” Annabelle squealed as she hugged them along with mother.

And well, Annabelle always stayed the same. The kind, patient, and calmest sister of all of them.

“Goodness! I leave the house for just a few months and it already needs a deep cleaning!” Kayla said the moment the door opened. Her husband and daughter followed right along and Kayla looked at them both. “Jeremey, by all means, relax for a bit. Donna, you too, but feel free to come around and assist me when your feet are rested.”

“I can help now, mother!” Donna said with a smile.

“Very well, see to the kitchen I  will start on the upstairs hallway.” She said and gave her daughter a headpat and bustled up to mother and kissed her cheek.

“Mother! It is so wonderful to see you on such a lovely occasion! Forgive that I couldn’t get away more. I will come to you soon, but I must see to the house- no, I insist! You are caught up in the wedding preparations enough as it is!” She said in rapid fire and bustled off upstairs and froze just before the first step.

“Grant!” She said and turned around and rushed over to me. “My darling baby brother! How are you? You’ve grown so much, and look just like father!”

“Kayla!” I exclaimed, returning her hug and kissed her cheek. “You really should relax for once when you come to visit! It always turns into a cleaning event for you!”

Kayla blushed and looked away coyly. “Okay- okay. For you, little brother. Just this once!” She looked around. “Has Eldest arrived yet?”

We all shook our heads. “Not yet, but soon.”

Kayla nodded and hugged Annabelle again. “Well, do let me know when she arrives! I will be in the kitchen with Father and Donna.”

I watched the triplets, Annabelle and mother reminisce and catch up and felt a familiar presence and slipped outside without anyone noticing.

.

.

“Helen! I know you’re here!” I whispered, looking around the dim front yard.

I peered around and sensed her magic presence getting closer. I was about to call out again when my body whirled around and I was strung upside down looking at my smiling sister’s face.

“Helen!” I said, pulling my shirt back down.

“Grant! Look at you!” Helen said, pulling me in close and hugging me. “You’re growing up so fast!” She whispered in my ear, burying her nose in my long reddish-brown hair and inhaled. “In more ways than one! I can smell so much magical power in you!”

“So this is the brother you keep talking about!” A strong male voice said behind Helen.

“Grant, this is my fiance’ Thomas! Thomas, this is my brother, Grant!”

I looked at the man standing behind Helen. He was tall, and had a lean look of a wild ranger. He held out his hand and I took his strong handshake even as Helen was still holding me, rocking me slightly side to side.

“Comon, Eldest!” I said, tapping her shoulder a little. “Mother and father are waiting for you!”

Helen slowly put me down and smiled as she settled down into the grass to be at eye level with me. “Grant, I have a gift for you!” She said, her lips parted into a gleaming smile. “I had the opportunity to meet with Mother’s Patron, and I met your betrothed!”

I felt a rise of elation and gasped. “Really! You did! Wow!”

She nodded and held out her hand, a small projection of light shone from her hand and coalesced into a pretty young Llim. She looked to the side and spoke.

Now?

Yes, it is ready.

The vision turned, and looked me in the eyes and smiled.

Hello Grant! I am Emelia! My mother told me that you and I are promised to each other, and well...I didn’t know how to feel about it until I met your sister, Helen! She is a very honest, caring and wonderful person! She showed me a projection of you and asked if I wanted to give you a message.

She paused and seemed thoughtful for a few moments and cleared her throat.

Well, now that the moment is right here- right now- I don’t really know what to say, but how much I am looking forward to the day we meet in person! Mother says it will be when we are both twelve, so another two years.

She leaned a little closer and whispered

Could you leave me a message like this for your sister to bring back? Until we meet, my Grant...this is Emelia, your promised bride!

She gave a double wink and blew a kiss.

I sighed as the image faded and Helen held out her hand closer that had a glowing stone on it.

“Do you want to give her a message?” She said with a knowing smile.

I nodded and Helen raised her hands and weaved her magic.

“Helen!” Everyone cried out, they looked and grabbed Thomas as well calling out his name too.

I sighed and watched this reunion a bit ways back and thought about how much it reminded me of old times.

“It’s so wonderful, isn’t it brother?” Annabelle mooed, sitting next to me.

I nodded, “Indeed. Family….there’s just nothing like it.”
