A single ryu danced through the azure-blue sky. Her tail swished around mightily as she propelled herself to her destination. In her scaly claws rested a bundle of flowers, some gems, and a piece of paper. She hovered over a lush green forest for a moment then plunged downwards.
The trees sped closer and closer until it seemed as if she was going to crash, but she twisted and at the last moment and manuvered her sleek dragon body through the trees, not even disturbing a single branch. She continued to speed through the forest until she came to a clearing at the very heart of the trees.
The clearing was well sheltered from the outside, save for a small hole that exposed the clearing to a single strand of sunlight. A tranquil pond sat at the very edge of the clearing; with koi fish of all color and sizes weaving to and fro in its peaceful waters. The ryu landed gently, as to not disturb the peace, and slithered solemnly to a single, erect stone in the very center of the clearing. Carved on the stone were the words, 'Rest in Peace, my Beloved."
The ryu towered over the stone. A single crystalline tear slid down her cheek and dropped to the grass below. She lowered herself and gently placed the flowers and gems in front of the stone. She sighed. "My beloved. It's been so long. I'm sorry, but I have been very busy the past few years. The human children are just so hungry these days. The crops they grow need ever so much rain." She gave a mournful smile as strands of tears flowed down shamelessly and disappeared into the grass below. She reached out and touched the stone and stroked it. "I brought you your favorite flowers. I knew you've always liked roses didn't you? I also brought some gems to compensate for the last few years when I didn't come." she choked back a sob.
"I had to haggle with another dragon for those. I traded in several of my finest silks for the gems. Funny how that works eh?" She gave a forced laugh. "Remember the days when we visited the village together? How every one flocked to see us? How they all forced so many gifts upon us hoping for a blessing? How we blessed many of the new born infants that year?" She ran her fingers down the smooth face of the stone. "I miss you. I miss you so much." she whispered.
"I never understood why you refused the mermaid blood. It could've made you immortal. Like me. I knew that you wanted to stay human instead of living forever, but I guess I'm not "human" enough to understand that concept." She withdrew her hand slowly. "The villagers are trying to get me to remarry every year. I still bless them, but it's just not the same without you. The men this generation are strong and buff, but they will never replace you in my heart. Even if they do have bigger dicks." she cracked a smile. "It's been fifty years. I just want you to know..." she wiped the tears from her eyes, but they all came pouring out when she said,
"I still love you."
