A Lone Hunter, Chapter Eight

POV: Rain (First Person)

I hadn't slept for the past two days. Ever since Serena had run into the forest, tears in her eyes. I had tried to track her down but to no avail. I could only be mad at myself for even trying to run after her. Yet it seemed like she wanted me to. She wanted me to hold her close and wipe the tears away while it rained.

But I wasn't able to.

I got up from the couch and walked outside, my chest heavy. Why did she leave? I never had this feeling before.

No, I had, but not because of this kind of situation. The last time I had felt like this was when my parents had died. When Quilla had embraced me and waited as I fell asleep on that night, Sheila crying as well with the death of her father as well.

This was sadness.

I was s…

A Lone Hunter, Chapter Seven

I let the arrow fly as the boar looked up to see me on my tree platform. It let out a loud squeal before the arrow brained it. The body flopped onto its side, causing the dirt to fly up in a small cloud. I smiled at the thought of being able to bring such a great meal back home. Far as I knew, Serena had never tried boar before. She usually preferred deer or rabbit most days.

Winter was finally letting go of the forest, and spring arriving after three long months of cold snow and ice. I heaved the carcass onto my back and made my way back to the house. I would make sure to visit Sheila after preparing this for later tonight.

Knowing her she'd perform the usual tackle-hug she always did after not getting to talk to me for so long. At first, w…

A Lone Hunter, Chapter Six

POV: Mara (First Person)

I felt something jabbing my side, making me stir from my sleep. I looked to see it was just one of my packmates, her foot against my side as she slept in her usual awkward position. I looked around to see everyone else still asleep. Well, asleep or with one of the males we had taken over the years.

I myself had never taken my a man for my own husband. None of them had seemed to catch my eye like the others. Being a werewolf it was in our nature to go after men like rabid animals, each getting their own way with him before taking him into the pack. This was different in my case.

There was only one human male that I wanted. One that should've been mine, that could still be mine. I got up on my feet and decided to go for…

A Lone Hunter, Chapter Five

POV: Serena (First Person)

I woke up to the sound of coughing. At first, it seemed subtle, as if someone was clearing their throat. It didn't stop though as I heard the sound of wood being chopped as well. I bolted straight up and went outside, running as fast as my leg would let me as I limped outside into the snow covered ground and windy air. The coughing became louder as I went behind the house to see Rain holding his chest as another fit wracked him.

"Rain! You aren't supposed to be out here!" I said worried about him. He shook his head.

"I'm-fine- just a little-" He didn't get to finish as he continued to cough some more, each shaking his body.

His face was pale, and his eyes wet with moisture. I put my hand on his shoulder and guided hi…

A Lone Hunter, Chapter Four

My feet caused ripples in the water as I let them dangle off the pier, kicking them back and forth in the cold water. The weather had started to become a crisp cold in the mornings now, winter coming ever closer. Sheila looked at me with her usual blank look, probably wondering what I was doing.

I had woken up that morning to a certain someone next to me in bed. I had nearly fallen out of bed when I realized whose breast I had decided to snuggle up to thinking it was my pillow. Serena hadn't been too happy, saying that it was cold and that I was the only source of warmth in the house that she could find besides the blanket I had been using. She then accused me of trying to take advantage of her, when she was the one who came into my bed. Th…
