Dragons are said to be some of the oldest beings in all creation, preceding Humanity and all the variety of Demihumans, with only the Gods themselves, and the mysterious Chaos Demons preceding them.

The veracity of this statement is unknown, as records from such a time are all but nonexistent. What is known is that Dragons see themselves as the Rules of the Earth, chief among Monsters, Humanity, and all others, even the Gods themselves must be wary to them. They are monstrously powerful, their strength allows them to dominate the land, sea, and air.

Legends tell of an era long past, before the rise of the Demon Lords, wherein Dragons ruled over all, the beings of the earth were their slaves, and were forced to build monuments in their name, and paid tribute in gold, gems, and other riches. This is said to be why Dragons live in long forgotten and gargantuan ruins, resting on their hoard of treasures. What the ultimate fate of this mythical empire was has been long forgotten.

Dragons in this interregnum stayed to themselves in isolation, keeping to their own communities, they were often sought out by men seaking wisdom or fortune according to myths.

But in spite of their great power and knowledge, upon the coming age of Demon Lords, many of their kind were subjegated by the Monstrous Horde, and their nature was changed to suit their reckless pursuit of bloodlust, and carnage corrupted by Demonic Energy. The image of the wise hermit Dragon atop his gold in his faraway lair became replaced with that of a mindless beast that sought not but destruction. Not all were forced to fight under the Demon Lords banner, most kept to themselves in their lairs, doing as they pleased, some managed to keep away from the world in their hidden enlightened communities, yet others joined under the banner of the Order’s Crusade, leading to the formation of the Dragoon Knights of the Dragon Isle, where it is said many ruins and artifacts of the long forgotten empire of the Dragons remain intact.

In this era, the Dragons pride became arrogance, they refused to acknowledge the humiliation of being subject to the whims of a Demon Lord, and continued to act as if they, not the Demon Lords, were the ones with all the power in the world.

Perhaps in respects to this, and the fact that they were the kings of the earth prior to the arrival of the Demon Lords, the world-wide changes of monsters into beautiful women did not seem to occur. Most Dragons took this as a sign that their time in bondage as a race to the Demon Lord had come to an end.

But eventually this was shown not be the case. While the Dragons retained their monstrous appearance, all of their newly hatched young held the same beautiful and demonic forms as almost all other Monsters, and no matter what Dragons did, they could only produce these beautiful girls as offspring.

Still as arrogant as ever though, these young, and Dragons as a whole, tried to act as if nothing had changed, living in the same manner they always had. It helped that these new Monster Girl Dragons had the ability to resume the forms of their fathers when they so wished, so most Humans, Demihumans, and most Monsters continued, and in some cases still continue, to believe that Dragons were unchanged by the Demon Lord.

But as much of a blow to the pride of Dragons, their instincts to find a husband to couple with is overwhelming, and what is worse that because of the Demon Lord, only Human men can be used as Husbands, and Dragons are forced to recognize them as the males of their race.

Largely Dragons as a species tend to isolate themselves from others, even fellow Dragons, as it is custom between wild Dragons to follow a hierarchy of who is the strongest, and because of this Dragons often fight upon meeting each other to determine who is strongest. Even Dragons prefer to avoid the destruction this causes. However while they lack the organization of Elves, Dwarves, Humans, and even other Monsters, they are still feared and respected around the world for their devastating strength.

Colored/High Dragons

The most archetypal and well-recognized of Dragons. Often referred to simply as Dragons, they come in many unique sub-types who are adapted to specific environs, with other various specialized adaptations. They are sometimes referred to as Colored Dragons to differentiate them from other Dragon Sub-Species, as well as to group together the various colored varieties. They are also referred to as High Dragons since they are considered the atypical example of Dragons, this term is more popular in Order Lands where they are more prevalent. The different Colored Dragons look, act, and behave in the same fashions unless noted otherwise.

Green (common)

Green, or Common Dragons, sometimes referred to as Forest, Grassland, or Plains dragons. Called Common Dragons as they are the most prolific widespread and adaptable of the Colored variations, as well as the most recognized Dragon of all time, this is the creature that most people think of when one says ‘Dragon’.

That said, they detest people referring to them as ‘common’ so its wise to only use that term with Scholars.

Red (fire)

The second most common of Colored Dragon, the Red, or Fire Dragon. They don’t have a specific environ they are limited to, but they are especially prevalent in volcanic areas, and as so are most identified with those areas. They’re fire breath is the hottest and most intense of all Dragons, and as such are particularly feared.

White (ice/frost)

Dragons who are only found in the North Arctic Kingdom, and their surrounding seas, the White, Ice, or Frost Dragon. Most Dragons are resistant to heat and cold due to their Dragon Breath, but White Dragons are said to be completely immune to cold, but uncomfortable in extreme heat. They have a special power in their breath that causes one not to catch on fire, but to become coated in ice and extreme cold.

Blue (lightning/thunder)

An iridescent dragon who’s scales are a beautiful contrast of dark indigo’s and pale blues, the Blue, also known as the Lightning or Thunder Dragon. They live across various wastelands and savanah’s. It is said they live much more humble lives than most other dragons, who sleep ontop of piles of gold each knight. They have the peculiar ability to breath electricity, and have the rumored power to cause storms, but that's probably just a rumor.

Brass/Copper (desert)

Dragons who live in the Desert Region, where Pharaoh’s and Apophis live. There scales shine brightly in the desert sun. They spend most of their time in the shade of their lairs, which hold as much ancient gold as the ruins the Pharaoh’s and Apophis live in. Their monstrous form is longer, thinner, with a longer snout than most other Drgons.

Brown (marsh/swamp)

Dragons who make their homes in the wetlands of the world, known as the Brown Dragon. They are often looked down upon by other Dragons for their chosen homes which are much more humble compared to typical Dragon Lairs (the Blue Dragon who lives similarly typically live too far away from other Dragons to be of concern to them). They have a unique fire-breath, they spew out noxious gas that paralyzes all who breathe it in, and can then ignite with special ‘sparker’ organ they have in their mouth, igniting it.

Black/Purple/Dark (demon)

Dragons who have been completely taken in by Demonic Energy, and have become Monsters themselves. They are rare, but are incredibly fearsome. They are also incredibly perverted and laviscious, and as such serve as a source of shame to Dragons, and they tend to spend too much time thinking lewd thoughts and fantasies to actually terrorize anyone. They have the unique power to breathe pure Demonic Energy, turning anyone who might try to attack them, or even just bother them, into a Monster or Incubus.

Drakes

A Dragon subspecies, they typically have smaller bodies, typical of a teenager, both in their current, and more monstrous ancient forms, which is about the size of a large horse. Most Drakes are kept by Dragoon Knights. Though Drakes are capable of flight, they are more often ridden like typical Cavalry.

Though Drakes who are ridden by Dragoons have the same Knightly Demeanor that other Dragon mounts do, those in the wild are said to have very haughty and immature personalities.

Komodo

A Drake Subspecies who live across the variety of tropical islands. Some of the island inhabitants even consider dragons to be so powerful that they worship these Komodo. Though these Monsters may fancy themselves as queens, and are indeed much stronger than most Humans, they are actually unusually weak for Dragons, as such they rarely if ever leave their home islands.

Dragonlings

Very small dragons, whose bodies are akin to smaller monsters. Though they can still transform into their more classically draconic forms, it isn’t much more powerful than in their typical forms, as they are quite weak individually.

To make up for this fact, Dragonlings are pack Monsters, travelling in groups for hunting and for defense.

Due to their small stature, they aren’t as arrogant as other Dragons, as such they aren’t nearly as picky when it comes to picking a mate to share between them.

Dragonlings are also common on the Dragon Isle, but their use in battle is limited, they are sometimes used as scouts, or to help move supplies, but they are often kept as pets instead. Those on the Dragon Isle all like to fancy themselves as squire, to the annoyance of other Dragon Knights.

Fey Dragons

An odd, fairy-sized race Dragons who live in the Fairy Kingdom. Though they are almost as haughty as their larger cousins, they are also just as childish as the Faeries who live there, and will often play with others, even demanding others to play with them if they are bored.

Instead of a typical Dragon’s batlike wings, they have the typical Faerie-like insect wings that they use to flutter around. The origins of these Fey Dragons remains a mystery.

Though one might easily mistake them for simply Faeries with an odd fashion sense, and rude personality, they still retain the chief characteristics of Dragon, being their fire-breath and ability to change into their past forms. In both cases though, they are so weak as to be pathetic, their fire-breath while more magical in nature, can do little more than light a candle, and their terrible past forms, are still not much larger than one's hands.

Despite this, they still feel themselves rulers of the earth, as the Faeries, Pixies, and Kesaran Pasaran who live in the Fairy Kingdom are no match for them, and Fey Dragons believe themselves to the be most powerful creatures in existence, even if they were to come across a Human who dwarfed them, they’d still make demands of them, and even were they to see another full-grown Dragon, they’d be confidant in their ability to beat them.

As such, when meeting visitors from outside the Fairy-Kingdom, they are often humbled when they come across someone they cannot bully into submission.

Long Dragons

Closely related to the Ryu of Zipangu, they make their homes in the faraway Mist Continent, where there are nine among them who serve as Queens, or Empresses. Some point to this as a remnant of the ancient Dragon Empire. It is believed these Dragons hold a connection to Heaven, and they are infinitely wise, able to foretell natural events such as storms or earthquakes. Those who visit these Dragons are believed to be given good luck. They are also believed to be symbols of fertility, making them very popular among Monsters.

Because of this, symbols of Dragons are seen all across the continent. Natives of the Mist Continent are even sometimes referred to as ‘Descendants of Dragons’. Many festivals and holidays are celebrated in the name of the Long Dragons.

Amongst certain Mist Continent Nobles, there is a ceremony that can allow one of their Daughters to become Long Dragons, and bring fortune to their family. However, the monsterization effect causes the woman to become mad with pleasure, and desperately seek a Husband. Upon finding one, she starts her own family that she will grant all kinds of fortune to instead.

Among their relation to the Ryu, there are rumors that they also possess a ‘reverse scale’ that can make them go mad.

It is also said that they share a peculiar relationship with the Phoenixes that are native to the Mist Continent.

Sea Serpent

Dragons whose domain is the sea, they are feared by many a sailor, as they would hunt ships in ages past, and continue to do so when searching for a Husband, they will even take a man should he have a Mermaid wife (as many Sailors these days need a Monster Bride in order to sail past the shallows), meaning even Monsters fear them as Husband Snatchers.

Their bodies are shaped much like Lamia, they lack wings, and have a serpent's tail in place of a lower body, additionally they have gills that they use to breathe underwater where they make their home. They are known as the swiftest swimmers in the entire ocean, and their fire-breath is able to burn even underwater, and above water, they can release high-pressured jets of water.

Upon taking a Husband, some Sea Serpents take them to their underwater layer that has a magically replenishing air-bubble in it for him to live. Others however have been known to coerce Sea-Bishops to give them the ability to breathe underwater.

Leviathan

One of the most terrifying and strong monsters in existence, they are known as the Queens of the Ocean. Their bodies have been described as seeming a cross between a traditional Dragon, and a Neried.

It is said that they’re monstrous forms are the largest of any Monster that has ever existed. They fear nothing, and have been known to venture into the Deep Layer of the ocean.

These Monsters are very stoic in nature, and rarely speak in the few instances in which people have met them. Though some sailors have reported to see them breaching the ocean surface to breath, or rest, few even amongst the Mermaid Kingdoms have seen them face-to-face.

When surfacing to find a husband, it is said that they have caused entire maelstroms. While in their Monstrous Form, they take the man they like the most inside of their mouth, and then swim to the bottom of the ocean floor, and deposit them in their underwater palace that has its own air-pocket that is magically kept-fresh.

Some men who have claimed to be the husbands of Leviathans said that despite their stoic demeanor and frightening appearance, they are quite doting wives, willing to retrieve anything it is that their husband desires, even other Monsters, no matter how far they are. Mysteriously though, this should lead to more Leviathan sightings than there are.

Leviathans also lack gills, despite the fact they spend most of their lives in the ocean. They instead hold-their breath, but it's believed that their Monstrous bodies can hold enough air for hours, even days at a time.

Amphiptere

A species of Dragon is only found in an area known as the Far West, where they are worshipped as queens and gods.

They have curious bodies, with their lower halves like a Lamia, and their arms being like a Harpy. As such, they are also sometimes referred to as ‘feathered ‘serpents’. They tails and wings tend to be very colorful, and their skin tan, while their clothes are made out of gold and jade.

They often use their position as gods and rulers to raid nearby settlements for human sacrifices to be made in their name. It is thought that, like in ages past, these sacrifices used to be exceedingly cruel and torturous, but in today's era, the men who are sacrificed are often used as the Amphiptere’s Husband. Women who are captured are used as priests who maintain the Aphiptere’s many shrines.

Their Monstrous forms are also quite beautiful, but are quite terrifying, and they often lead their people into battle this way. Because of this, the Amphiptere Civilization is the strongest power in the Far West.

Likewise though, the Order considers the worshippers of these Amphiptere’s to be heathens, as they completely ignore the worship of the Gods, unlike the people of Zipangu who are are considered to have heretical practices in their similar veneration of Ryu, but still acknowledge the place of the Gods.

Feathered Dragons

Another variety of Dragon who live in the Far West, their bodies in both their womanly and monstrous forms are very much similar to High Dragons to their east, save that their skins have an alluring reddish tan to them, and in place of scales they have feathers instead. They span far to the north and south in the Far West, and they have a wide-variety of plumage, in the colder north they have a duller brown, or grey color to their feathers, but in the jungles of the south they instead have a bright and festive colors.

Feathered Dragons behave much like High Dragons as well, preferring to live in isolation, and only coming down from their lairs for food, supplies, or Husbands. The native peoples of this land however respect the Feathered Dragon more than they fear them, and their feathers are considered sacred.

Feathered Dragons have been known to come into conflict with Amphiptere’s when they encroach on their civilization, and as such they are routinely driven out from their lands.
