Dr. Jenkins and Misses Hellion.png

“Doctor!”

I looked up from my notes as  I felt my sleeve being tugged again. “Yes, Doctor Jenkins?” I said, looking at my lab assistant in sadness.

‘Doctor’ I laughed coldly in my head not wanting my assistant to see. It was true she had been a doctor, one of prominence, stature, and respect in the Mamono Lands, but no more. No here in Order territory she was seen as nothing by my masters. Only a means to an end. Which is why she had been spared, why she had been assigned to me.

My masters had hated her, bullied her, belittled her for the three long years I knew her since her capture. Using everything from magic to simple threats they twisted her life into a state of agony. Even her once proud title was now a symbol of mockery to be cackled behind her as she shuffled away with a drooping tail and sagging ears.

I sniffled lightly and rubbed the stubble under my chin, if only there was some way to help her, to help all these souls! I stewed in our shared misery until my mind was brought back by a gentle bark.

“Master! Wuff! Wuff I’ve told you to call me Hailey...Master, pay attention! You can’t drift off now! The distillation process of the Demonic Energy has fluctuated! Wuff!”

“The subjects are nearing a new low-stage of dormancy!”My Kobold assistant said excitedly.

“Good job!” I said, trying and failing at not having my voice go into praise mode for canines. I stood and patted Hailey on her head, her tail wagging so fast it was almost a blur. “Really good job!” I said, striding over to the subjects The Order Archmages placed under a continuous sleep spell.

“I did a good job, Master! Wuff-Wuff! I am so happy! Wuff!” Hailey cheered as she bounded about, holding her folders to her chest as I led the way to the extraction room.

I looked over the three Hellhounds, each specimen was over nine feet tall; athletic builds which never tired, and a near limitless supply of infernal magical power….at least until now.

I looked at the readings and noticed their infernal energies were now on a different frequency. Instead of the massive chaotic jumble of power spikes and fluctuations, it was now a steady, even power resonance that was calm and predictable.

“Hailey, let’s distill this! This is stable enough to make into a liquid!” I exclaimed, receiving a gallon sized bottle from my assistant and placed it on the receiver of the extraction contraption. I changed the settings and watched as a glowing translucent red fluid flowed into the bottle quickly filling it up.I tucked it away and moved to each subject and filled a bottle, for a total of three. “This substance may prove to be a major breakthrough, Hailey!” I exclaimed happily and set one of the gallon jars on the table and gathered my supplies to start analysis and testing.

I had just finished gathering everything together when the door burst open and my three Mage masters strode in, their faces furrowed in grim, unflattering lines.

“Sebastian, what happened? The infernal powers are no longer usable for our needs!”

“I’m unsure.” I gestured to the three subjects. “Well, it appears their limitless source of infernal energies are not as limited as once thought. It is quite fascinating, really! Their harmonics of the energies they have is stable and-”

“Stable? That means it’s weak! Worthless! We can’t even power an item portal, let alone a transport portal!” The other two mages nodded as the Grandmaster looked over the subjects with a disgusted scowl. “Increase the extraction machine to its highest setting! Tomorrow the council is going to procure more specimens. In the meantime, keep the energy output as high as you can.”

“Master!” I cried out, holding out my hands. “Doing that will surely kill them!”

“You say that, as if it is a problem.” The Grandmaster looked at me as if I’d gone insane.

He extended his hand and small balls of energy shot forth and latched onto my body, causing me to scream in pain. “Your insolence is going to cost you, fool! These creatures are a means to an end! Nothing more!”

“Don’t hurt him!” Hailey cried out, trying to push over the Grandmaster, but he swatted her aside with a quick hand, causing her to yelp and cry out in pain. She rushed back, tears in her eyes. “Stop it! Reuff! Don’t hurt him! I love him!” She screamed, chomping her teeth on his leg.

“You miserable wretch! You mongrel unclean beast! I will flay you alive for this!” The Grandmaster cried out. He smacked her aside again and kicked my precious Hailey aside against the table, causing her to crash across the worn counter with enough force to drag the pulsating crimson extract with her.

A momentous crash and a pained whimper followed as she toppled over the table with that shattered beaker.

“No! Stop!” I cried out, trying to rise to my feet when a sound froze me in place.

A low growl shuddered through the air and reverberated against the still anger of the arrogant mage. The crackle of broken glass snapped under foot and I shuddered at the idea of Hailey trying to move over broken glass.

“What in the name of the Saints!” The mage screeched! A cracking and snapping sound tore against my ears but the man didn’t seem to notice as his face grew red and he shoved a pudgy finger in my face. “You have ruined the sum of plans beyond your station! I shall have you under the lash for this insolence, boy!”

A sharp thwack crackled through the air and my head stung with pain as the cleric thrashed his signet ring against my head and I cried out in terror.

Suddenly an enormous slate grey paw with razor sharp claws that dripped a crimson sludge slammed down on the desk. The sound of splintering wood cut at my ears as the clawed appendage cut five deep trenches in the dark grain of the countertop and a behemoth shadow rose from the floor.

“Can it be? Freedom!” The hulking shade cackled gleefully as two luminous yellow orbs danced in its mass. But as soon as its sight swept over me the laughter died away and the light dimmed to a putrid yellow. “Grr!” A deep rumbling howl split the air as the creature snarled. “You hurt my Pet!”

In a blur of motion I saw the countertop torn to pieces as if it were made of parchment and a shadow loomed over the lead mage before ensnaring him in a jagged claw.

“Now, now what’s this?! A skulking old bag of bones terrorising a poor, fraile…” The creature glanced at me, it’s dim eyes lighting up in lustrous golden hues as it eyed me and licked its lips with a long red tongue. “...And unprotected youth. Tsk, tsk, tsk you should be ashamed.” The large creature giggled harshly and waggled a razor tipped finger before the terrified mage’s eyes. With a grunt the shadowed beast of a woman hurled the mage away across the room where he landed in a groaning heap as the two remaining mages advanced on her.

Taking the opportunity I scooted against the furthest wall away from the creature and the mages. Gasping for breath as my heart hammered in my chest my eyes flitted around the room in desperation looking for something,  anything, anyone who could help!

“Who is that? And what happened to Hailey?” I whispered in a panic as my eyes locked in darted around in a daze of fear. Slowly I cast my eyes to the glass containment cages that held the Hellhounds immobile, and back to the creature that was fighting tooth and claw against magic constructs that the mages conjured to stop her.

She was colossal, easily standing  eight feet or more if I had to guess. Silky grey fur stood in contrast to coal-black skin slicked with sweat as this canine woman launched a second mage across the room like a ragdoll. Two pointed fuzzy ears twitched atop her head and she turned her burning gilded embers on me. I saw an inky brush flourish behind her and realised it was her tail. A set of ivory fangs curled from jet black lips, but the expression was soft, sweet even as the left orb winked at me.

Before I could react she had turned away and caught the last mage in a vice grip and began to juggle his struggling form and howling with amusement at his indignation. The firm muscles that rippled across her exposed flesh at her action and large twin globes that shook as she moved drew my mind to a detail I’d missed in all the excitement. She was utterly naked except for a few sparse scraps of clothing that draped across her shoulders and back highlighting her ample femininity.

“You diseased mongrel, how dare you attack an adherent of the Chief God! I shall smite your filth from this world!” Blue light poured out into the air and the air stank of ozone as teal lighting and then indigo fire flew from the wand of the Grandmaster as he regained his footing

A huge swell of flame rushed outward in a careless manner and I cried out in fear as it swept across the room burning away everything in its path as it rushed toward me. Covering my face with my hands I waited for the end. But the end didn’t come. Peeking out between my fingers I saw the large bristling shadow of an enraged Hellhound blotting out most of the room. Dark swirls of smoke curled around her frame as she smothered the blue flames that clung to her fur with a smirk.

“Ooh tingly!.” She chuckled. “Did you really think fire of any sort would affect me? Tsk, my dear deluded plaything I was made in fire. But thanks for playing, it was quite a rush!” Moving in a grey blur she grabbed the Grandmaster by his collar as he tried to ready his wand for another attack. “Let me help you with that before you injure yourself.” She snarled as she snapped the magical conduit to pieces. “Now what do I do with such a naughty old boy hmm?” She stroked her chin as she gave a vicious grin revealing rows of ivory hued fangs. “Now, let me think...I know!” She snapped her claws together as the grin stretched across her face and her eyes glowed tauntingly. “You’ll make a perfect chew toy for one of these ladies. Luckily for you, old bones are our favourite! Oh ladies?!” A husky and sensuous tone flowed from blackened yet vigorous lips.”

With a bang the three glass containment cages burst apart in showers of fragments as if they’d been nothing more than a mirage and three large shadows stepped into view. Their eyes burnt with a daunting vitality and strength that was completely removed from how they had appeared before, and I shuddered.

“Boy do something, I-I command you!” The old man screamed as he was tossed to the closest of the Hellhound trio.

“Here you go, Hecate dear, just as I promised.” The grey coated hound cried delightedly.

“Thank you Hailey!” With a delighted lip the leader of the three nuzzled the Grandmaster to her chest. “I’m going to enjoy revitalising your body to match that delectable fire in your veins my darling Husband! But we’ll have to work on your naughty streak, my bad pup.” The Grandmaster grew white as a sheet and began to blubber before being squeezed tighter. “Don’t worry pup.” Hecate grinned.

“Did she say Hailey?” I whispered in confusion. My mind buzzed with so many questions and fears. I was so lost in my own thoughts that I didn’t notice the looming shadow cast over my huddled  frame until it was too late.

Being ensnared in an unbreakable iron grip caused me to scream. And I whimpered before realising that the inescapable hold was noticeably tempered by softness and care. Opening my eyes I stared up into a bright toothy grin that replaced the enraged snarl that had covered a frightening dark visage, transforming it into a sweet smirk. Long silky grey trusses framed a strong face and complimented the ink black skin while drawing me deep into flaxen pools of this creature’s eyes. A monumental paw cupped my cheek lightly and I shuddered at the sensation of the soft pads as they brushed my skin.

“Hello Sebastian, my sweet Pet!” Hot tendrils of breath wriggled into my ear causing me to squirm as she spoke. “Tell me, do you like what you see dear Pet?” A silky paw dragged its way down over a curvaceous bust, along a set of firm abdominals that seemed chiseled from obsidian, and down a set of wide hips with a tantalising slowness that highlighted every detail.

“I-I, Hailey is...Are you?” I spluttered in shock as my brain raced to put the pieces together. “Is that…”

“So cute my Pet. Yes in a way I am her, but . I have her thoughts, her emotions, her feelings especially the ones for you. But I’m something else now too, someone else. I’m so much more than your silly doctor friend. That was the point of all this after all.” She giggled and wrapped her tail around me.

“Wait what do you mean ‘the point’ what point? And if you’re not Hailey, who are you?”

“Oh now that’s an interesting question and you’re right I’m not Doctor Jenkins. No, I wouldn't be as sheltered and procedural as her.” The strange woman grinned at me, her eyes growing with a noticeable hunger. “Call me...Call me Hellion. Miss Evelyn Hellion. I think it’s far past time we were properly acquainted my Pet.”

Heat and sweetness burst through me as I felt Evelyn’s lips crash into mine and her tongue tangled with mine. I felt a sense of peace and comfort wash over me as Evelyn cupped my face and her tail wrapped across my back.

As we disconnected from our kiss a bright violet purple portal exploded into view at the beck and call of one of the Hellhounds and I looked between the three and Hai-Or Evelyn now I suppose with confusion written on my face.

“But how did they escape?! The Grandmaster drained them of their energy to fuel our spells!”

“And you believed that pompous gasbag my Pet? Oh my sweet, silly Pet it’s impossible to drain Demonic Energy from a Mamono, even our weakest is far more robust than a Human!”

“But the portals, the energy transference, well it was working. It...”

“It was a clever illusion. We were always in control, especially when we looked weakest.”

“Sorry to interrupt this tender moment but are you going to be alright by yourself Evelyn?” The leader of the Hellhound trio asked as she and her two other cohorts cuddled my three masters now ensnared in their gentle grip.

“I’ll be perfectly fine, thank you Hecate, from both of us.” Evelyn beamed at me.

“Very well I shall leave it open for you so you can get to your home in the Royal Makai when you’re ready.” With that the three Hellhounds dragged their prey into the shimmering gateway beyond.

“I-What, how are…”

“Shh my Pet, relax.” Evelyn pecked my cheek. “I know you have questions and there’ll be time for that later, though I suppose I do owe you a brief explanation.” She giggled. “You see you and Hailey were working on experiments, but you weren’t the ones being tested, your masters were. Hecate and her sisters knew Doctor Jenkins from her days as a professor in the Royal Demonic Academy of Science. They knew the Order was trying to find ways of harnessing Mamono energy and they wanted to see what was happening and put a stop to it. So they infiltrated the Order. After all, a Kobold's so cute and fuzzy wuzzy and ♫So very harmless♫ they make the perfect saboteur above suspicion!”

“But Hailey was captured three years before the Hellhounds were, even before the project was created!” I spoke in disbelieving tones much to Evelyn’s clear distaste as a frown formed on her lips. But she was soon smiling widely again.

“Mm and they tell an apprentice everything, hmm?” She chuckled and rubbed her nose against mine. “This project has been going on long before you were indentured into the Mage Guild’s grasp Pet. As for Hecate, Persephone, and Libitina they came at the appointed time.  We knew once we got in it would be difficult to escape but Hailey was clever and an accomplished potion master as you know. She created an elixir which infused Hellhound magic into a template for species transmogrification! In simple terms my dear ME! Her greatest creation! Giving her a surrogate to say what she won’t, to do what she can’t! We planned on getting in and out. It only took a few days to get the files we needed. But she, I, we didn’t plan on meeting you Pet, we couldn’t leave you...”

“You mean you stayed here because of me? And what about the container you shattered?  I don’t understand why you would suffer all that the Mages put you through because…”

“Because you were trapped and hurt. Oh yes, we played a long game. Well that and Hecate and her sisters needed Husbands. What better than four birds with one shagging hmm? Plus we can always use more Mages, and don’t worry they’ll be treated well. As for the container, that was just good luck. It never had any ‘distilled Demonic Energy’ at all. Why that doesn’t even exist!.” Evelyn drug a clawed finger through the bright crimson pool and pressed it past my lips.

“...Fruit juice, cherry fruit juice?!” I gasped before suckling on the rest of the digit.

“Yep! I planned to leave it behind in the escape just to stick it to the Mage Guild. But when the Grandmaster sent Hailey crashing across the table it was just too good a suspenseful moment to pass up. Oh and don’t you fret Pet she was fine, we’re robust remember?” Evelyn picked me up in her arms and kissed me before carrying me towards the event horizon of the portal. “I can’t wait to show you how much you mean to us...To both of us. Let’s go home, Pet.”
